Touching The Sky

by Mina

Venus sat on the porch of the small cabin that she and Maxi had come to for the weekend. The air was clean, cool, and fresh and smelled lightly of pine. She was sitting in a small chair that overlooked a lake near the mountains. She was lost in her thoughts looking out at the water.

It shone and sparkled in the daylight and was the purest blue she had ever seen. It seemed to add to the freshness of the scenery and she could see fish jumping to the surface as she watched it flow. Loons were swimming in the water and they looked like tiny black water phantoms floating on the glass-like surface. Geese flew in and landed on the water, splashing crystal droplets. Venus could see the pale markings of mountains in the distance as she stared out from where she was sitting.

They mountains were blue at the bases and then gradually faded into white and the snow at the top was almost invisible against the pale blue sky, the color of a robin's eggs. Venus breathed in and relished in her calm surroundings. Everything about her radiated life and freshness. Venus was about to doze off, loking out, when she heard light footsteps behind her.

Maxi.

Maxi walked up behind Venus and put his arms around her and hugged her close. Venus smiled to herself and hugged him back. Maxi turned to face Venus and they watched the activity on the lake, the animals and calming scene before them.

They could see the splashing animals, and a beaver was swimming across the lake, enjoying the cool water. An owl cried and was perched on the bracnh of a pine tree, also staring at the lake with big, yellow eyes. The sun began to set and it shone light pink colors across the mountains and the water. The sun turned the snow-capped peaks silver as it set.

Venus was losing her self in the view from the cabin whe Maxi leaned down and kissed her. His arms tightened around her as if to say, "I'm never letting go", and his lips held the warmth of freshly baked cookies, and were just as sweet. Venus felt as if she were floating in her surroundings. She was sure that she could touch the sky, just as the mountains reached upward. She let herself go to Maxi's embrace and they were together, happy and content.
