MDK2

MDK2 is the sequel to the sleeper hit MDK from Shiny. The original was a Playstation classic that unfortunately went unnoticed by most gamers. The sequel, in comparison, is much bigger in scope and design, and proves to be a much better game as well.

Graphically, MDK2 is excellent. The characters are all well-rendered, the lighting is great, the effects are cool, and the shadows are quite realistic. The level design is excellent, in that everything is well-rendered, diverse, and huge. The bosses are especially impressive; they are huge in size, look awesome, and the effects when fighting them are totally excellent. The artwork, too, in this game must be noted, because it is just that good. Visually, the only flaw I can see is the slowdown that occurs at a few points in the game. However, if you've seen the areas, you'd understand why. Visually, MDK2 is a very strong title.

The different characters that you play as, Kirk, Max, and Dr. Hawkins, all play admirably. Kirk's gameplay relies on stealth, Max's shooting, and Dr. Hawkin's puzzle soliving. All these gameplay modes are very diverse, yet the transition from one to another is natural and easy, due in no small part to the excellent control. The challenges that you face in this game differ from character to character as well, as to best accomodate the player. The character diversity is definitely a remarkable feat.

The gameplay in MDK2 is totally sweet! It really makes you think back to the old days of action games. The levels are very well-designed, greatly adding to the game. The enemies are quite intelligent, and each type acts in its own manner. The different items you get are all very useful and cool, especially stuff like the black hole grenade and atomic toaster. The items are so bizarre its funny! Also, unlike every other game made during this time period, MDK2 takes skill. Its a very difficult game actually, at least until you get the hang of it. Its quite refreshing actually, to be challenged by a game, and feel a sense of accomplishment when you get past a certain part. Also, in order to balance out the difficulty, the developers have put in multiple checkpoints, which was an ingenious idea. The only negative thing I have to say about the game is that sometimes it is actually too difficult. However, the high difficulting is overall refreshing
