Icewind Dale

When I first saw Icewind Dale, I was skeptical that the game would be good. However, after several hours with it I realize my reservations were wrongly placed. Icewind Dale is a really good game.

The gameplay in Icewind Dale is where this games at. The numerous classes are quite cool and different, and its fun being able to control a group of characters with varying abilities. The ability to pause in combat is incredibly useful, and it allows you to control your group properly. The enemies are pretty cool but not that varying. However, this really doesn't hurt the game. Icewind Dale has excellent gameplay in almost every aspect.

Icewind Dale is the first D&D game that I've played, and although I heard Balder's Gate II is a better game, Icewind Dale is no slouch. It really is quite fun and is addictive in the variety of classes and ways to play that the game offers you. This is highly recommended to those who like D&D and to those who like RPGs.

Category: Description: Rating:
Graphics The graphics in Icewind Dale are seriously dated. The game is quite old however, and so that explains for its dated looks. Its graphics definitely aren't a strength for this game. 5/10
Gameplay Icewind Dale's gameplay is quite good. There are a diverse amount of classes, tons of equipment, and challenging battles. Also, its cool having a party to control and the ability to pause gameplay makes the combat very controllable. However, the gameplay really isn't all that diverse and so the game can be monotmonous. Overall, the gameplay is quite good. 9/10
Story The story in Icewind Dale is above average, but is still not excellent. It is made so that the story is versatile enough since there is no set character that you are. You never really get attached to your characters, but the story is pretty good even though you aren't always involved. The story is well-implimented in this game and is very well done for a D&D game. 8/10
Replay The gameplay in Icewind Dale has a ton of replay. The numerous classes make it fun to play through the game multiple times, and the drive to build stronger characters is always something that adds to replay in a game. The large number of locations also help to increase the replay of this game. Believe me, Icewind Dale has a really high replay value. 9/10
Overall Icewind Dale is a good game. Although the graphics are a shortcoming, do they really matter in this type of a game? The story is decent and the gameplay, or what really matters, is very well done and diverse. The ability to have a party of various classes is really cool and the combat is pretty much perfectly done. I would recommend this game to any gamer who likes D&D games or to someone who would like to play D&D games, since this a good introduction one. 8.8/10
