Bubbly and airheaded, Botan is one of Spirit World's top agents, serving to inform and aid new arrivals as what is known in most legends as the Grim Reaper, effectively avoiding every cliché that comes with the title.

Botan is mostly responsible for Yusuke's resurrection. Just when everything seemed down, Botan realized Kayko's mother was in a sleep state and possessed her, telling Kayko how to revive Yusuke.

Afterwards, Botan remained on Earth in a human form working as Yusuke's assisstant, giving him important Spirit Detective items, missions, and information on the demons he faces, though Botan has been known to take up the old Baseball bat (or, in some cases, her magical oar which she flys on) and join in the fight as well, taking care of some of the Makai Insects threatening Earth(and Kayko) while Yusuke was in Maze Castle attempting to stop the swarming insects.
