Characters

• Yakumo Fuji-An ordinary high school boy, Yakumo's father, Professor Satoru Fugii left him and his mother behind while he travelled to Tibet in search for the Sanjiyan Unkara. Yakumo's mother then left the family and disappeared from Yakumo's life. Being left all alone, Yakumo supports himself by working under his boss who's known as "mamsan", while he attends school too. Yakumo works as a part-time waiter in a gay bar, Culture Shock, in Shinjuku. He lives in a rented apartment in Tokyo, had friends and enjoyed motorcycling, leading the life of a normal 17-year-old. Though without his parents, he enjoyed life as it is, and had a good pay. But all was changed when he met Pai. He met Pai on his day to work as she was mugged and he tried to help her. As he is late for work, he brought Pai along to his workplace. She delivers to him the letter from Prof. Fugii, and tells him about her past and seeked his assistance in turning her into human. Naturally, he did not believe a word of this but soon after wihile trying to save Pai he was attacked by Pai's pet monster, Tahiku, where he was then saved by and Sanjiyan and turned into a Wu. Sometime later he woke up to find a character "Wu" on his forehead and realised his destiny after cetain incidents involving his friends, he decides to help Pai in her quest to become human. He soon falls in love with Pai and Sanjiyan.
  
• Pai-Since the fateful meeting of Pai and Yakumo, they have been together braving through all dangers. Thus, it is only very soon when Pai falls in love with Yakumo. She is the alter ego of Sanjiyan and thus also share the power of Sanjiyan. She is a very kind hearted and adorable girl. Eversince she was a child, she has dreamt of becoming human and it was so very long ago that sometimes, she even forget what is the reason she had for wanting to turn into human. Fate would have it to allow Professor Satoru Fugii to have met her in his archeological expeditions trip to seeks for the Sanjiyan Unkara. Pai was delighted when Professor Fugii agreed to help her in her quest to become human but unfortunately he died after substaining injuries from an accident. He left Pai with only a letter for his son and a promise that his son would inturn help turn her into human. Searching for Yakumo for years, she finally found him and turned him into her Wu, they begun their long adventure together
  
• Sanjiyan-Once the fiance of Kai Yan Wang, she is also the alter ego of Pai. Cold, proud, arrogant, she is extremely powerful. Sanjiyan is the sole survivor of her race, Sanjiyan Unkara, which was ended by a great war. She has a third eye in her forehead and she will appear at times usually when Pai is in danger. Sanjiyan is a very independant character who has Yakumo as her Wu and sometimes she is very devastated over the fact that Yakumo is not powerful enough to protect her but needs her protection instead. She commands great power and is together with Pai and Yakumo for the search of the Ningen no Zou to allow her to become human but also because of this, she is the target of many to attain immortality and Kai Yan Wang in order to restore and prolong his power and life. Yakumo her protector will not die but as they had become one, once she dies, her Wu will die too. When they first met and her pet Tahiku has attacked Yakumo, it is her who had rescued him from his untimely death by making him her Wu. This event marks the starting point of the long adventure for Pai and Yakumo as well as the romance between Yakumo and Pai/Sakiyan.
  
• Kaiyanwan-He is the evil ruler of Sanjiyan Unkara. He is cold and ruthless and do not care for the death of his people thus once his people stage a rebellion against him, a great battle took place and it resulted in the total destruction of the Sanjiyan Race with the exception of only a few, namely Pai, his mother and so on. Kai Yan Wang is more of a title than a name. Kai Yan Wang's real name is Shiva which is a destructive god in the hindu religion. The Sanjiyan gave their life away to seal Shiva away where he could no long reap havoc on the Sanjiyan race or human race. Shiva was Pai's fiancee when Pai was a young Sanjiyan. At then, Shiva was still a kind-hearted and caring Sanjiyan, unlike the others as it is known for Sanjiyan to be proud since they lived so long and no longer find happiness in emotions. But during the humanification ceremony where Shiva was supposed to be human and pass his Sanjiyan powers to the Kai Yan Wang (of that period), something went wrong and and the powers turned to Shiva where he took in all the knowledge, power and evil of Kai Yan Wang. From then on, his only goal was to dominate the Sanjiyan Unkara and human. Pai stood against him. In the whole story, his Wu, Benares, plot to release Kai Yan Wang from his seal so that he may rule the world once again. Yakumo has fought against Benares a couple of times but the difference in power they share are of great amount. Benares seeks the Statue of Humanity and 2 living Sanjiyan to perform the humanification ceremony to give power to the weakened king. Until then, the search for Sanjiyans continues.
  
• Benares-A powerful sorceror and a martial artiste, he fights against Yakumo to capture Sanijiyan (Parvati VI). Having being a Wu long enough, Benares is very powerful and has most of the power creatures Yakumo has, in fact more. Orignially a huge dragon, Benares is now in the form of a human and he controls several other monsters. *Yakumo once tried to seal him. Almost succeeded but failed in the end* His goal is to ressurect his master, Kai Yan Wang. Almost of all the battles he had with Yakumo, Yakumo is always on the losing ground but Sanjiyan always manages to save the day. He had once attempted to steal the statue of humanity from Pai and Yakumo by possessing the body of the friend, Meixing, and when Yakumo's hand was controlled by Benares with a monster tenacles, in order to save Meixing, Yakumo sacrificed his hands by chopping it off to save her. (Anyway he a Wu).As the Wu's are of one body with their masters, since Kai Yan Wang is weakening, Benares is too.
  
• Lee Ling Ling-She is a very talented lady; Fire arms expert, Martial artiste, has pilot skills. But to her, money is the bottom-line. Ling Ling used to work alongside Yakumo's father in the Yougeikisha (Monster Buster) Company. After the disappearance of Yakumo's father, she continued to run the company herself until Pai and Yakumo comes along and help too. She was once not a believer of monsters but soon after a few adventures, she has turned into a believer. Independent character with a witty brain, always calculating (profit). A very strong woman, she will not back away no matter whom the opponent is although she doesn't have any special powers.
  
• Long Meixing-Well versed is martial arts, Meixing is a girl living in Hong Kong. She is the sister of the famous exorcist, Steve Long. She is a girl with a very strong character and not only that, she is physically strong too. Meixing has freckles on her cheeks that makes her look sweet and gentle but please do not get mistaken or you might break a few bones for underestimating her. She seems to have taken a liking for Yakumo although their first meeting wasn't much of a pleasant one.Their meeting was because of Steve and Ling Ling's disappearance after a mysterious explosion. Her only clue is a piece of broken statue, head with three eyes. She tracks down to Pai and Yakumo whom she thought they were the one involved in her brother's disappearance. She fights with Yakumo but soon after she was ambushed by others and the statue was stolen away. Only when she realised that Yakumo and Pai are friends and could help her, then did she let her guard down alittle. She led the charges to the rescue of her brother but only ended up being captured by Benares to use as a human sacrifice for Kai Yan Wang.
  
• Ran Pao Pao/Hong Niang -Once the servant and bodyguard of an enemy of Pai, Hong Niang has two personality. Usually in the form of a sweet looking and shy little girl but once agitated or ordered to fight she will transform into huge four-armed killer. Even with Yakumo's new found powers, he could not match the speed and agressive attacks of Ran Pao Pao. Eventually Pai's innocent and sincere personality wins over Hong Niang when her master, Chou Kai, decided to sacrifice Ran Pao Pao in order to destroy Pai. Nearing the verge of death, Ran Pao Pao was saved by Pai and thus, realising that she holds no importance to her master, she turns against him in order to save Yakumo and Pai instead and becomes one of the most powerful allies.
  
• Ayanokouji Yoko/Houasyou-She is a very confusing character in the manga where she first appeared as "Pai" living a life not knowing who Yakumo is and yet not the usual adorable and gentle Pai. The truth is that Houasyou is actually an enchanted snake servant of Benares, used to Choang-Rin-Rin on Pai. Although it was to Benares's intention to seal up Pai's memory with a mark that's converted by Houasyou on Pai's forehead, Houasyou has lost her memory too. To her, Pai was also her own body and she is Pai. Parvati was sealed too but the "Pai" whom Houasyou is controlling can also turn into Sanjiyan but of a totally different character. After meeting Yakumo, she feel for him and through a long time spent together and their battle with Benares, Houasyou was finally separated from Pai and Pai's memory was finally regained. Sanjiyan transformed the snake into human form with the name Ayanokouji Yoko, where she retained her memory but with a new body. Given a new body and a new life for the time being, she is soon back with Yakumo and Pai in their adventure as she has the power to morph her body with the help of water. She refuses to reveal to Yakumo the location of Benares until he becomes strong enough to fight against him. Yoko falls in love with Yakumo as she finds him attractive but the fact that Yakumo and Pai is in love stays. She soon becomes another one of the powerful allies Yakumo and Pai have with. Haan took up a liking for her and soon, she does hold the same feeling for him too. Only that she is alittle to stubborn to admit it.
  
• Haan-He is a rathered short-tempered fellow and extremely shy infront of girls but seems to be loggerheads with Yakumo all the time last time. As time goes by, these two have become good friends. He fights with magical items like wards especially and is versed in curses and chants. He makes a strong fighter and provides Yakumo with Beast eggs to increase Yakumo's ability to summon more beasts. Haan is a dealer in those magical items and had met Yakumo in his trip to Pakistan. Yakumo has agreed to introduce him to pretty japanese girls in exchange for two beast eggs but end up tricking him to going to mamasan's gay bar. Furious and eager on revenge, Haan seeks for Yakumo.The furious Haan soon found Yakumo and threathens to release two more beast eggs if he does not get introduced to japanese girls but then again, having accidentally dripped Yakumo's blood onto the beast eggs, Haan has already released them. Being the master of these beasts is to first defeat them. Moreover having released two beast at one shot is almost impossible for Yakumo to tame. One of the beast turned out to be the powerful beast Benares used. Haan becomes interested in Pai and staged a rivalry with Yakumo. He soon becoms a powerful ally of Yakumo, though they don't always agree with each other, they make good team mates. In the later part of the manga, Haan fell for Houasyou and is even willing to sacrifice for her. Haan goes through most of the adventures with Yakumo and Pai and is a character that cannot be missed out with. More things about him awaits you in the manga.

  Review- This series is pretty good. the art is unique and the character development is really cool. The only problem in this OVA series is that it covers only manga 1 through 5 in a 46 manga series. So it barely scratches the surface. The manga on the other hand is really good. Great art, cool storylines. a must read.
