Warning: Gravitation is a shounen-ai (gay) anime series. It is not hentai, but if you can’t deal with two guys kissing, then this anime probably is not for you. Best way to watch this series is simple. For the first few times, just think of Shuichi as a girl, and it feels less weird. trust me, now on with the synopsis
Shindou Shuichi, the vocalist of the pop band Bad Luck, is an 19 year old who aspires to create a successful music career. However, things aren’t made easier after he meets the handsome, accomplished romance novelist Yuki Eiri. One fateful night, the lyrics to Shuichi’s newest song are blown out of his hands and straight into those of the mysterious stranger. Yuki reads the unfinished love song, only to cast it back into the wind. Yuki’s only response was that Shuichi had ‘zero talent’ and writes at an elementary school level. "Give it up," he tells Shuichi.
Crushed by the author’s harsh comments, Shuichi finds the author the next day and demands an apology. One thing leads to another, and Shuichi finds himself madly in love with the author. Yuki tries to distance himself from Shuichi, often acting coldly towards the musician. Even though Yuki is constantly criticizing Shuichi and calling him an idiot, Shuichi is persistent. Despite Yuki’s uncaring attitude, he loves Shuichi very much, but, because of his past, is afraid of betraying ‘someone else’. The story’s primary focus is on the evolution of their relationship through many trials and events. A true romance comedy, this series is a must watch.
Characters
- Shindou Shuichi -Shuichi is the lead vocalist of the band "Bad Luck". He is perky, excitable, and very very personable. He is in charge of writing the lyrics for the band and often has to be "persuaded" to finish them. Shuichi has idolized Sakuma Ryuichi and the band Nittle Grasper and modeled his own band after them. He's gone so far as to mimic Sakuma's hair style (right down to using the same shampoo) and stage style. Before meeting Yuki Eiri, Shuichi was single. Even afterwards he has trouble with the idea of two men being in the same relationship (not that it stops him from going after Eiri).
- Nagano Hiroshi-Hiro, Bad Luck’s guitarist, is an academic genius, though he threw that away to pursue his music career. He’s Shuichi’s best friend and won’t allow anyone (namely Eiri) hurt his friend’s feelings
- Fujisaki Suguru-: Fujisaki was picked by Seguchi Tohma (his cousin) to be Bad Luck’s third member. He’s the band’s keyboardist/synthesizer. He’s extremely ambitious (perhaps because his cousin’s so famous?) and doesn’t talk much.
- Uesugi Eiri-Yuki, the extremely handsome and successful novelist, has a mysterious past that compels him to distance himself from Shuichi. However, he truly loves the young songwriter and won’t let hurt him.
- Uesugi Tatsuha-Tatsuha is Yuki’s younger brother and worshiper of Sakuma Ryuichi. He’s perhaps even more obsessed than Shuichi, if possible. His ideal present would probably be Ryuichi all wrapped up and covered with chocolate. However, in the anime, it is never shown that Ryuichi even knows that Tatsuha exists.
- Usami Ayaka-Ayaka is originally Yuki’s fiancee, but she later hooks up with Hiro. She’s very caring and supportive, doing what she can to help.
- Seguchi Tohma-Tohma is not only the keyboardist of Nittle Grasper, but also the president of the music company NG. He knew Yuki as a child and is the only that truly understands Yuki and his troubled past. Married to Mika (Yuki’s sister), he loves Yuki as a brother would. If you mess with Yuki, Tohma will definitely have something to say (or do) about it- even if it means being slightly evil. Pushing people in front of oncoming cars it one example...
- Sakuma Ryuichi-Ryuichi is the much worshiped lead vocalist of the band Nittle Grasper. He has a bizarre alter-2-year-old personality offstage, but always manages to give his friends support in an indirect way. He carries around a pink bunny named Kumagoro, whom he talks to as though he were a child
- Sakano-Sakano is originally Bad Luck’s Manager, but later beccomes their producer. He is probably the biggest spaz in anime. He’ll cry, while simultaneously screaming in a high pitched voice, and spin around the room as a tornado.
- Ukai Noriko-Noriko is the other keyboardist of Nittle Grasper. She often acts as an older sister character of the group (especially towards Ryuichi in his alter-personality)
- K -: K is Ryuichi’s former manager, but became the manager of Bad Luck. He’s got a gun and he knows how to use it. Correction... he has MANY guns. And he has a very bad habit of using them to threaten people.
Rating-4 1/2 out of five:****' stars
Review-When i first saw this series, i was sorta freaked out about the whole guy/guy relationship aspect of it, but since i have seen it at least 4 times, i have become accustom to it and it dosen't bother me. The main reason why this series is enjoyable is the large amount of techno/rock music used in the series. Songs like "Sleepless Beauty" and "Rage Beat" are what make this series really fun and interesting to watch.
