The Slayers

Meet Lina Inverse, the cute, sassy, teen sorceress whose two joys in life are food and money! Along with her “protector”, the strong but dumber than dirt swordsman Gourry, her hyperactive and enthusiastic protege, Amelia, and the overly serious golem man Zelgadis, Lina and her friends travel around an ancient fantasy world of dragons, monsters, and magic, searching for food, fortune, and fame...well, mostly just food and fortune! ^_^

Slayers is divided into three, twenty-six episode series’.(Spoilers ahead) The first series(just called The Slayers"my thrid favorite of the three seasons") involves the mysterious Red Priest, Rezo. While stealing from some bandits one day, Lina was “saved” by Gourry, who swore to be her “protector” from then on(much to Lina’s dismay ^^,,,) The pair soon encountered Zelgadis, a part golem, part demon, and part human chimera man who, at first, seemed like a shady character. Lina and Gourry were told by Rezo the Red Priest that Zelgadis wanted to resurrect the most powerful monster, the Dark Lord Shabranigdo. But they soon found out that it was Rezo who wanted to do that in the hopes that it would help cure his blindness. By sealing Shabranigdo inside his own body, Rezo could finally see...but Shabranigdo soon overtook him. After a difficult battle, Lina, Gourry, and Zelgadis, were able to defeat the terrible Dark Lord. After Zelgadis went off on his own for a while, Lina and Gourry came upon Amelia, a princess from the renowned kingdom of Seryuun. Amelia enthusiastically believed in justice, and she decided to follow Lina in order to become a good sorceress so she could advocate justice wherever she went(much to Lina’s dismay ^^,,,) The gang soon met Sylphiel from the city of Sairrag, who specialized in healing spells(and had a major crush on Gourry). But Lina and her friends soon discovered that Rezo was still alive?! No, a copy of him was made by one of his loyal followers, Eris. But Copy Rezo turned against Eris, and wanted to kill Lina in order to surpass the power of the original Rezo. He even summoned the demon beast, Zanaffar to help him. But Lina was able to use the powerful Bless Blade, and the magical tree Flagoon to defeat Copy Rezo and Zanaffar.

In the second series of Slayers, called Slayers Next (my favorite season of all ), Lina and Gourry are reunited with Amelia and Zelgadis when Lina completely demolished the plotting kingdom of Xona(everyone had evacuated except the ambitious king and his daughter, Martina) Martina swore to kill Lina for revenge, but the two just developed a never-ending rivalry that’s more humorous than serious. This series also introduces Xellos(My favorite character in the series. All hail xellos- sama), the comical but mysterious priest, who kept on following Lina and the gang(and later turns out to be a monster!) Towards the end of the series, Lina is confronted with the powerful monster Hellmaster Phibrizzo! Phibrizzo knew that Lina could cast the most powerful spell, the Giga Slave, which could consume the entire world into a dark void of nothingness. Lina had vowed never to use that spell, but when Phibrizzo put Gourry’s life on the line, Lina had to risk everything in order to save him!

The third series of Slayers, Slayers Try(2nd favorite season in the series), involved a prophesy brought to Lina and her friends by the dragon priestess Filia. As the gang traveled with Filia in order to find out the meaning of the prophesy, they’re constantly attacked by the monster, Valgaav. Later on, it’s revealed that Valgaav wanted to free the Dark Lord, Dark Star, and to do so he needed the five light weapons, one of them being Gourry’s Sword of Light! Things really start to heat up when the dragons, the gods, and the monsters get involved, and the events that occured were what was fortold in the prophesy. A past genocide, involving the massacre of all ancient dragons by the golden dragons because of a disagreement, is what led Valgaav to want to free Dark Star(he was part ancient dragon)...he wanted Dark Star to destroy the world and let it start over, without the ongoing war between the gods and the monsters. Now, dragons, monsters, gods, and humans must come together and use the five light weapons to defeat Dark Star!


Characters

• Lina Inverse-There are two things in life that Lina really enjoys..food and money! Known as the “bandit killer” or the “dragon spooker”, Lina loves nothing more than beating up gangs of bandits and stealing what they stole, or stuffing her face at a restaurant! Lina travels with Gourry or Naga, and sometimes Amelia and Zelgadis, Sylphiel, or Filia(depending on which Slayers series or movie you’re watching ^^,,,). Lina is probably the most powerful sorceress you’ll ever find. She’s one of the few that can perform really strong spells, like the Dragon Slave and the Ragna Blade. She can also unleash the most dangerous spell of all, the Giga Slave! Lina’s got a temper as hot as the Fire Balls she throws, and she thinks nothing of beating up anyone who gets in her way(or interferes with her meals!) But as much as Lina tries to hide it, she does have a caring side to her. She’s dedicated to her friends, and even though she beats up on Gourry for being a total idiot, it’s obvious that she loves him
  
• Gourry Gabriev-When Gourry “saved” Lina from a gang of bandits, he thought he was saving a pretty girl, not a “flat-chested little kid”(as he put it ^^,,,) But after meeting Lina and seeing that she was all by herself, he decided to make it his duty in life to be her protector(not that Lina needs a protector). Throughout all of their adventures, Lina and Gourry became inseparable comrades(even though neither of them will admit that they love each other ^_^) Anyone who knows Gourry knows that he’s not exactly the brightest star in the sky, so to speak. The poor guy usually doesn’t have a clue about what Lina and the others are talking about! But when it comes to fighting with his Sword of Light, Gourry’s quite skilled.
  
• Amelia Wil Tesla Seyruun-Amelia is the princess of Seyruun City, daughter of Prince Philionel. Her main goal is to advocate the virtues of justice(and she’s quite enthusiastic about! ^^) When she saw what a skilled sorceress Lina is, she decided to follow Lina so that she could be a good sorceress, too. At first, Lina wasn’t too thrilled with having the hyper-active, justice-loving princess as her apprentice. But Lina eventually warmed up to Amelia and, along with Zelgadis and Gourry, the four became an unbeatable team(Amelia also developed a little crush on Zelgadis!
  
• Zelgadis Greywoods-Zelgadis wanted power more than anything else. When he was young, he trained with his sword all the time. One day, he was approached by the mysterious Red Priest, Rezo. Rezo promised Zelgadis power, and he accepted. But what he didn’t know was that in giving him power, Rezo had turned him into a chimera, making him part golem, part demon, and part human, with rocky skin and wire hair. Ever since then, Zelgadis’ main goal in life was to search for a way to turn himself back into a normal human. At first, he appeared to be villainous character, but Lina soon discovered that Rezo was the real enemy. Zel’s a great swordsman and sorcerer, but I guess you could say that he has a reputation for being overly serious. While Lina and Gourry(and sometimes Amelia) are busy stuffing their faces and fighting over food, Zel just sighs and wonders how he got stuck with such misfits! ^_^ But as time went on, he became a valuable comrade to Lina, and he was more open to friendship(he also gained a subtle, but cute little crush on Amelia
  
• Sylphiel Nels Lahda-Sylphiel lived in Sairaag City with her father. She had known Gourry for a while, and had developed a big time crush on him! When Copy Rezo destroyed Sairaag with his power, Sylphiel’s father was caught in the blast!(Poor Sylphiel! 8_8) But despite her distress, Sylphiel was able to save Lina’s life with her healing magic, and lead her to the Bless Blade. Lina was then able to use the Bless Blade to destroy Copy Rezo and Zanaffar. Sylphiel is extremely gentle and she doesn’t seem to have a mean bone in her body. But she’s also a bit frail and emotionally unstable. I guess you can’t really blame her since she had to suffer through the loss of her city and her father. However, she was able to act strongly when Phibrizzo had kidnapped Gourry. Even though Sylphiel and Lina are complete opposites in personality, they’re great friends(And they both love Gourry!
  
• Martina Xoana Mel Navratilova-Martina’s father was the king of Xoana(though she was usually the one to give the orders!) They were planning to build up an extremely powerful army for world conquest. However, their plans were thwarted when Amelia arrived and told them that their army build up had surpassed what their treaty had allowed, and that they should cease at once. But when they kidnapped Amelia, Lina came to the rescue and blew the kingdom to bits with her Dragon Slave(everyone had evacuated except Martina and the king). Ever since then, Martina vowed to kill Lina for revenge. Using her obsession with her own made-up monster, Zomelgustar, Martina was even able to put a curse on Lina! The two became fast rivals and they never saw eye-to-eye until the final battle where everyone had to come together to fight Phibrizzo. You kind of have to feel sorry for Martina. She lost her kingdom, every man she had ever fallen in love with either disappointed her or ended up being a monster, and in her fights with Lina she’s usually the one to get the most damage. But Martina does recieve happiness in the end. She returns to a newly-built Xoana and marries Zangulus
  
• Xellos Metallium-(The greatest character in the series in my opinion)While Lina and the gang were searching for the Claire Bible, they encountered Xellos, a traveling priest who was also searching for the book. Xellos decided to accompany Lina and the others in their search. But he never got too friendly with them, and he always stayed behind, as if he were hiding something. Well, it turned out that he was...he was actually a monster!(and was serving Hellmaster Phibrizzo at the time) Even though most monsters have evil and malicious demeanors, Xellos is actually one of the most comical characters in Slayers! He’s much better at being a prankster and a joker, than being a monster! (for more info check out his character page)
  
• Filia Ul Copt-Filia’s a golden dragon who served as a priestess at the temple of the Fire Dragon King. When she received a prophesy of world destruction, she immediately set out in search of its meaning, and possibly its prevention. She thought that perhaps humans were a main part of the prophesy, and her search soon led her to Lina’s group. At first, Lina and the others didn’t think much about the prophesy...they continued to stuff their faces with food and goof off, usually ignoring Filia’s pleas for them to try to be more serious about it. But later on, when the words of the prophesy became reality, everyone was forced to work together in order to prevent world destruction from a most terrifying monster! At first, Filia seemed to be the character to poke fun at...Lina and the gang were always either leaving her behind, or spending all of her money on food. Also, being a servant of the gods, Filia had a strong aversion to Xellos. But when Valgaav appeared, and Filia learned the truth about her race and the ancient dragons, she became a lot more serious and determined. She decided to no longer serve as priestess, and she wished only to help Valgaav. Even though the whole troublesome feud and hatred between Valgaav and the golden dragons caused her to become stricken and bewildered, she was able to pull herself together in order to help defeat Dark Star, and even save Valgaav!
  
• Hellmaster Phibrizzo-Phibrizzo was one of the most powerful monsters. He could kill people in the blink of an eye, and he thought nothing of it. When he learned that Lina could cast the ultimate spell, the Giga Slave, which could turn the world into a dark void of oblivion if it goes out of control, Phibrizzo devised a plan: to have Lina use the spell in hopes that it would go out of control and plunge the world into chaos. Disguising himself as a small child, he was able to walk among Lina and the others without them knowing who he really was. And after he destroyed Gaav, he revealed his true identity and kidnapped Gourry! He used his powers to temporarily resurrect the dead city of Sairaag, and if Lina wanted Gourry back, she would have to come to the city and cast the Giga Slave. When Lina was still reluctant to cast the dangerous spell, Phibrizzo threatened to kill all of her friends, including Gourry. Lina finally decided to cast the spell, and it ended up bringing the Lord of Nightmares into her body. Phibrizzo had no idea that the Giga Slave was the Lord of Nightmares herself! And as he was mourning over his ruined plan, the golden lord destroyed him.
