Stories have sprung up about the Humanoid Typhoon - Vash the Stampede, a legendary gunsman who leaves destruction in his wake and has $60 billion on his head. Strangely, though, no one is ever killed. The Bernadelli Insurance Company assigns two employees, Meryl Strife and Millie Thompson, the task of locating Vash the Stampede and monitoring his movements. (the destruction is taking its toll on the insurance company.)
The insurance girls go through a wild goose chase because all they have to work on are vague details like "red coat", "blonde", "tall", "earring" etc. The real Vash presents himself as a harmless, goofy skirt-chaser, which makes Meryl really reluctant to believe he is the Humanoid Typhoon.
The one Question is, Is this the real vash or is it just a mask to what he really is?
Characters
- Vash the Stampede-A gunslinger so dangerous, a $$60,000,000,000 reward has been placed on his head! Vash, also known as the Humanoid Typhoon, has been credited with the destruction of several towns, but miraculously, there is no record of him ever taking a life, However, only two things ever happen to those who catch up to Vash - they either crawl away wounded (mostly from self-inflicted damage), or they stagger away in disbelief that such a dork could possibly be the man they are looking for!
- Meyrl Stryfe-Meyrl is the brains of the M-n-M team, a Bernardelli claims girl who has to place Vash under a 24 hr watch. She gets what she wants when she wants it! At first she can't believe (like everyone BUT Milly) that Vash is the real thing. She hits him, yells at him, insults him. I really didn’t like her in the beginning. As the series goes on, Meyrl actually develops feelings for Vash and shows that she has good sense and a kind heart. She eventually realizes Vash's wish to not kill and just how gentle he is. Vash realizes he loves Meyrl when she pleads for his life, appearing as if she is Rem-incarnate.
- Milly Thompson-Milly is the typical comic relief of the series. She is Meyrl's assistant and follows her every command. Milly is a lot smarter and wiser than she knows, often knowing the right answer to tough situations. She often just looks at the others like 'duh! its supposed to work -this- way!' She believes right away that the blundering Blonde man they meet is Vash, and continues to be lighthearted through the series. When Wolfwood dies, however, she grieves...showing how deeply she loved the man. This girl naieve, but in that cluelessness, she is able to see situations without the clouded eyes of civilization.
- Nicholas D. Wolfwood-Wolfwood is the deepest supporting character in the series. Sent by Chapel the Evergreen of the GHG's, Wolfwood's mission is to kill Vash the Stampede. (Isnt that everyones mission?) Knives and Legato threaten the lives of the orphans that Wolfy protects if he does not complete his mission. Wolfwood is an orphan himself, taken in by Chapel as a child to train. He is the sensible voice of the group, rational except when someone's life is in danger. Traveling with Vash makes Wolfy realise that this blonde idiot isnt someone who deserves to die. Wolfy also falls in love with Milly and its HEAVILY hinted near the end of the anime and when Wolfwood confesses that she is pregnant with his child. One of the most liked, and deeply plotted characters in any anime.
- Rem Saverem-The woman who started it all! She took in Vash and Knives and raised them when they were given to the ship as a gift from the plants. She tried to teach the boys about life and love, how all things had a right to live. Knives (the kawaii little satanic murderer) was going to spare her life for his brother's sake when he tried to crash the SEEDS, but lost all respect for her when she ran from the boys to save the SEED ships, dieing in her effort. Vash is haunted by her image, and follows her teachings with an almost disturbing obsession. Eventually Vash sees that he needs to create his own way of life...and thanks Rem for the head start
- Legato Bluesummers-Legato works for Knives, and has Vash's arm (the one that Knives shot off) attached to his own body. Legato has the uncanny ability to control minds, though we never find out how he got this power. Many speculate that hes part plant, but I believe he's just an extremley gifted human ridiculed for his gift and taken in by Knives and enslavement and horror insue. He makes Vash break the vow not to kill by making the Stampede choose between letting him live and letting Milly and Meyrl die. Legato desired death.. for death to him means peace.
- Knives Millions-Knives is Vash's twin brother. He is the other half to the traditional Yin and Yang, being evil. He tries to convince Vash that humans are worthless and that they should be the ones to rule the new planet but Vash refuses. Knives has a deep hatred of humans that stems from being treated horribly by some people on the ship. He assembles the Gung Ho Guns to make Vash's life hell and to basically make his twin a whimpering idiot. No dice and Knives has to face Vash himself. These two are so different yet disturbingly similar, making the series' last few episodes climatic, gripping and memorable
Rating-**** Stars(Four out of Five)
Review-This series was the 2nd series that i completed collecting on dvd. I found it to be sort of bi polar. The first 12 episodes mainly focus on character introduction, comedy, and Vash being a complete and utter nincompoop. The rest of the series becomes a mind fuck to Vash as the Gun Ho Guns enter the picture. The series seems to be a character study about Vash as he learns to become a person who, as oppose to follows someone's lead, learns to choose his own Path. Now with the philosophy aside, Let's get to the more fun parts. Vash overall is portayed as a big perverterd gluttonous, retard. which makes the series funny as hell when you see some of the situations he gets into. Overall, Trigun is my favorite out of the "Cowboy series" It outbeats cowboy bebop as well as outlaw star in my opinon. AS a final note, the best line in the series is this "Your passport to the future is always open" this means that no matter what you do, you can always make amends to what you do.
