Architectual elements of mansions and castles, of the shogun or daimyo, were often decorated with paintings. These included the wood or paper walls, fusuma sliding screen-doors, byobu movable screen-walls, and hanging scrolls in tokonoma alcoves.

The raised flooring you can see, was reserved strictly for high ranking samurai.
