'Exemplary Emperors'. Kano Tanyu.

Dates to the 1634 (early Tokugawa). Depicted are two of four fusuma sliding doors. The actual painting is ink on gold leaf (a style popular with Kano artists of the previous Momoyama era). Gold leaf was used to illuminate the castles of the shogunate, for an interesting description, read 'In Praise of Shadows' by Tanizaki Junichiro.
