Professor Oak is a Pokemon Professor that gives trainers their first Pokemon. He will also give them a Pokedex. A Pokedex tells trainers about Pokemon they see. Professor Oak helps trainers as they travel to become Pokemon masters.

In the cartoon, Professor Oak is a combination of a person with high intelligence, and a buffoon. He seems to be becoming more & more a minor character as the show goes on.
