As an ex-member of Shinra's elite squad known as SOLDIER, his fighting skills are in high demand. Cloud joins a rebel group AVALANCHE for their first strike against one of Shinra's huge Mako Reactors that surround the city of Midgar. The story line of Final Fantasy VII revolves around Cloud. In fact, most of the time you're required to have him in your party because he plays a key rold in most of the events in the game. Over time Cloud proves to be a great asset, because his powerful sword technique is nearly unmatched. You'll want to keep Cloud in your front line most of the time to take full advantage of his sword technique. His magic skills are solid, but don't overload him with Materia. Cloud Strife was born and raised in Nibelhieim, a quaint little town on the Western Continent. His father walked out on the family when he was very young, leaving him and his mother alone. Growing up, Cloud was very quiet and withdrawn, compared to the other children. He constantly would get into fights because of his rebellious nature. He never really had any friends, except for Tifa Lockheart. Though they were not incredibly close, Tifa was the only person from Nibelheim worth remembering. However, Cloud always felt that Tifa valued her other friends more than him, when the oppisite was true. At the age of fourteen, Cloud left Nibelheim to join SOLDIER, Shin-Ra's army of soldiers showered with Mako and enhanced with JENOVA cells. Cloud left to prove him self to Tifa - when all along she loved him and missed him terribly when he left. When Cloud joined, he became very good friends with another SOLDIER, Zack, from Gongaga. Zack made it into SOLDIER easily. Cloud, however, did not. Although he was physically able to join SOLDIER, he failed a psychological evaluation and was dropped from the program. He ended being an average officer in the Shin-Ra army. When Cloud was sixteen, he returned to Nibelheim with Zack and Sephiroth on a special mission. They were going to investegate some "monsters" brewing at Nibelheim's Mako Reactor. Tifa was the guide, and led them into the Nibel Mountains. She was unaware that Cloud was on the mission, because he was concealed in a Shin-Ra uniform. When they arrived at the Reactor, Sephiroth noticed where the Monsters were brewing - a product of the evil Professor Hojo, as well as where his supposed mother, JENOVA, was contained. Sephiroth returned to Nibelheim and conducted a great deal of research into his past and the past of the JENOVA project. When he learned that he was created by Professors Hojo and Gast, he went insane and burned Nibelheim to the ground. He returned to the reactor where he nearly killed Zack and Tifa. However, Cloud managed to kill Sephiroth by pushing him off the ledge and into the depths of the reactor below. Zack and Cloud were captured by Shin-Ra and they were held responsible for the death of Sephiroth. Hojo had the pleasure of running many experiments on them, in which he injected them with the JENOVA cells. However, they managed to escape. Unfortunatly, Zack was shot fatally by Shin-Ra forces. Cloud at this point was becoming confused by the JENOVA cells. He beileved that everything that had happened to Zack had really happened to him - and went on to become a Mercenary beileveing that. He picks up a job with AVALANCHE - and ends up fighting in a battle for the planet again the Shin-Ra corporation as well as Sephiroth. Personality: Cloud is rather quiet, still trying to figure himself out. At times he slips deep into himself, and shuts the others out. He is easily confused by his emotions, and often takes it out on others in outbursts. |
