It was night, late evening. Sango guessed it was just a few hours before dawn, but she couldn't sleep, she hadn't been able to close her eyes and rest without tossing over and waking herself up all over again. And by the looks of it, wouldn't be able to thanks to the aching pain in her shoulders. It wasn't exactly *painful*, it was more like a nagging throb in her muscles that wouldn't seem to go away, and thus kept her up.
Sango rubbed her eyes irritably, rolled over once more and didn't even bother to rest for two seconds before she sat up, annoyed with herself. Kirara, obviously, couldn't sleep near the huntress without being kept awake herself, so the two-tailed cat demon lay well and sleeping curled against Shippou.
She sighed and rubbed her shoulders as best she could to make the ache go away; but it didn't. The source was just an inch below her reach. Actually, she can reach that spot but she couldn't be able to massage it to rest, but yet she tried to fruitlessly attempt to calm down the nagging pain that had kept her awake.
"You really should be asleep…"
The huntress nearly jumped to her feet at the words, but managed to control herself and twisted her head to look at over her shoulder. Miroku was resting against the wooden wall, arms crossed against his chest with his staff leaning lazily against the side of his neck. His heavy lidded eyes blinking away the remains of slumber.
Sango blinked at him before her face turned to an expression of annoyance; she couldn't sleep all night and by the Gods she had been trying, and out of all the things the monk could have said he had to say the line that aggravated her most?
The demon exterminator turned away from him and once more tried to massage the throbbing ache. "I can't sleep," she mumbled her reply irritatingly.
Beside her, Kagome turned in her sleep so her back was to the huntress, Sango only glanced at Kagome for a second before continuing on with the task. She sighed, the pain was not going away.
There was a silence in the room for moments before Sango heard a rustle of clothing and beads clanking, she was about to turn around to see what the monk was doing but never got the chance. She was surprised at the feel of hands removing her own from her shoulders and she instantly turned around. She looked at Miroku with angry yet questioning eyes, for a moment forgetting about the throbbing ache in her shoulders.
He held up his hands in truce, his brown eyes more open then before but still heavy with sleep. "Nothing funny," he promised. Sango gave him an untrustworthy look before becoming aware of the pain once more, she hesitantly turned around so her back was to him. At this point, she would even trust the perverted houshi in helping her sleep.
He smiled, almost leering in fact, as he moved his fingers towards her back once more.
She felt his hands on her again and slowly began to caress the ache in that spot she couldn't access, almost immediately she felt the pain begin to ease away at the rub. Silence engulfed them both as Miroku gently massaged Sango's shoulder's until the pain was completely gone, all knots in her muscles untied. But the demon exterminator took no notice, the his kneading hands felt good. She involuntarily leaned back into his hands gladly.
Without knowing, her eyes slowly began to grow heavy and slowly close until she felt with great relief the numbness in her mind grow and spread through her body, soon into asleep.
Miroku blinked in small surprise as Sango rested against him, her head resting just below his shoulder and her bangs tickling his chin. He looked down questioningly and saw that she was asleep, her chest raising and falling with her even breaths. Silently, the houshi took the blanket Sango was sleeping under and wrapped it around the both of them before closing his eyes again to sleep.
