Chapter 2
Bully and a dark night
I slowly sat up in bed; we had been here a month now. Thing were great, but, for some reason, Seto had been acting weird. He never really went to school. Even though I was a year younger then Seto, I was in his grade at middle school. May knocked on my door.
"Hon, time to get ready for school!" she said, opening the door. I gently smiled at her.
"Ok, mom" I whispered, as I slid out of bed. I yawned gently. I had started calling her mom after two weeks. Of course I was the last to start calling Jou and May mom and dad. I think Seto was forced into calling them that; Mokuba happily went along with it.
I stepped out into the hall, bumping into Seto. "Seto?" I whispered, seeing that he was quite pale. Seto quietly looked up at me. "Are you coming to school today?" I asked.
My brother's eyes locked on mine. "No! I'm going with Jou to Kaiba Corp." He whispered, as if he was trying to hide from something.
I gently gazed at him. "Seto, what's wrong?" I asked, seeing that he was hiding something.
"Ka, it's Jou." Seto gasped and cut himself off with his own sobs. I quickly took my big brother in my arms and hugged him tightly. He hardly ever cried.
"What about Jou?" I whispered, trying to calm him.
"He... He..." Seto whispered, trying to calm himself enough to get the words out. He stopped speaking when he looked up. Jou stood there not amused by us.
"Ka, you're going to be late." he grumbleed.
I was gently pushed back by Seto. "Get going." Seto mumbled to me. I slowly nodded and went to get ready for school.

On the way out, I heard Jou talking on the phone. "Today! I want it done today! GOT IT?!" Jou yelled into the phone. I gently shook my head as I walked out.
I walked with Mokuba to the bus stop. Mokuba was in his happy mood, so I smiled. I gently sighed as I waited for the bus. Mokuba was singing to himself as he held my hand, like all little kids do. 'Why did Seto break down like that? And what did Jou have to do with it.' I thought. I was snapped out of it, though, when Mokuba pulled on my arm.
"Ka," He whispered. I looked up to find about six high schoolers.
"Well, hello there, pretty boy." one said with a weird grin on his face.
I looked away from him. "Just don't listen," I whispered to Mokuba, who was starting to whimper, seeing that they were punks. I looked back, hoping to see the bus. My eyes shot up to the teenager again when Mokuba's hold became tighter. I slowly stepped backwards with Mokuba behind me.
"Awe, pretty boy and short stuff are scared of us." one laughed.
When one tried to grab Mokuba, I did a round house on him. Once I was away from Mokuba, all of them jumped on me. "Mokuba get out of here!" I yelped. The six-year-old whimpered and cried as he ran for it.
"Damn it!" one muttered.
"Why? The boss just want this one F$%k up" another said calmly.
Two held me by the arms. I yelped as one used my stomach as a punching bag. I muttered something and side kicked the two holding me. As I got away from those two, one managed to kick me between the legs. I screamed as the sharp pain ran though me. I fell to the ground, whimpering. I looked up, hearing Seto's voice. Seto attacked them before they could hurt me anymore. When Jou ran up, the punks quickly ran off.
Mokuba ran over to me and held onto my neck, crying. "Ka!" Seto said, out of breath. Still whimpering in pain I looked up at him. His cold stare turned to a sadden look. Seto gently took me in a hug and held me. He soon took Mokuba into our hug too.
Jou muttered something to the area the punks had run off to. He then turned and picked me up. I stopped my whimpering when he lifted me. Mokuba and I stayed home that day. I didn't feel like listening to any of my teachers.

Later that night, when Jou and Seto returned home from Kaiba Corp., we ate dinner in near silence. Only a couple words were spoken, on how I was feeling. I answered in a small voice, saying it still hurt 'down there'.
For some reason, Jou kept an eye on me the whole night. That somewhat freaked me out. I went to bed, thinking that someone wanted the life beaten out of me, but no one really knew who I was. When my thoughts ran back to the driver's words, "Get out why you can," I gently shivered. That driver was found dead two weeks later. I turned over and fell asleep.
I awoke to a scream. I jumped up and went to the door. 'That sounded like Seto!' I thought, turning deadly pale at my brother's screams. I slowly stepped out into the hall and walked up to Seto's bedroom door. He wasn't screaming bloody murder anymore, but he was yelling quieter and crying.
"Seto!" I whispered, wondering if he was just having a really bad dream. No answer. Well, no one talking to me.
"You almost told." a dark voice muttered.
"I'm sorry, Jou." Seto mumbled back at the voice.
I growled as I slowly opened the door. I knew Jou was bad news.
"You see what happens when you don't listen. Ka almost got hurt badly." Jou growled.
My mouth dropped at what I saw. Seto stood against the wall. His clothes were torn from the whip that Jou held. Blood stained Seto's clothes and it seeped quickly from his open wounds. Jou stepped forward and whipped Seto again. I winced at my brother's pain, then quickly stepped back. I had to do something! The orphanage sounded better then seeing my brother beaten. I didn't know the sound of me shutting the door was heard.
I quickly picked up the phone, almost dropping it, and started to push numbers, but, with me shaking so, I couldn't get the right numbers. When the phone went dead, I gulped and I looked down, wondering whom it was that had cut the phone line, then gently put the phone back.
I yelped in surprise, and in pain, as the whip hit me. I slowly turned around to find Jou standing there. "And I liked you. But here you are, trying to call." Jou muttered.
My back burned. Jou raised the whip to hit me again, but Seto got in the way, taking another hit with the whip. "Leave Ka alone," he muttered.
"Seto," Jou growled.
"Ka didn't do anything. He's scared." Seto begged. Jou muttered something.
"Ka! Seto!" a little voice called from upstairs. I quietly looked up.
"Ka get him back in bed before he see Seto like this" Jou said calmly. Seto nodded.
"But, Seto, your wounds." I whispered, so Mokuba couldn't hear.
"I'll fix them," Jou said gently. "And I'll fix yours too, just get up there before he see Seto." Jou said crossing his arms.
I shivered as I ran up the steps and found Mokuba at the top of the stairs. "Small fly, what ya doing up?" I whispered, not believing myself for leaving Seto with that beating.
"I had a bad dream, and when I came looking for Seto I couldn't find him and then I couldn't find you!" Mokuba cried.
"Seto and I are still here, don't worry. Seto's just doing some homework and doesn't want anyone to be bugging him. I was getting a midnight snack." I whispered, picking up Mokuba taking him back to his room.
I could tell he knew something was wrong. I winced when Mokuba's hand touched my wounded back. Mokuba blinked as he looked at his own hand, seeing my blood. "Ka your..."
"Shhh, it's ok." I cut him off as I put him in his bed.
"But, big brother, what happened?" Mokuba asked, grabbing my arm.
"Nothing!" I yelled. Mokuba let go, whimpering. My eyes saddened, and then I felt angry at myself, for yelling at the little boy. "Oh, Mokuba, I'm sorry. I'm just having a bad day." I whispered as I hugged him.
"Don't cry, my brother.
We will be here, together
Forever.
As the time passes,
And we move apart.
We will always be brothers,
Best friends until the end.
Even after the end,
We will always be there in mind
And soul
Even if our flesh and blood is gone.
We will always
We will always
Be together."
I gently sang to Mokuba. It was song that our mother used to sing to Seto and me when we were little. Mokuba was too little to remember her singing, but, nowadays, we turn the words around just for us Catma brothers. Oops, I mean Kaiba brothers. Of course, that name was beginning to hurt.
I didn't notice the door open a little bit. I just kept rocking Mokuba in my arms and singing the song over and over. Jou's heart was breaking as he listened to my song.
