Chapter 5
Sick and it’s not getting better
I shifted in the dark room. Everytime I was close to falling asleep, that same saying replayed in my head. “Ring around the roses. Playing in the blood. We all fall down dead. Like Ka Kaiba.” I shivered. It was driving me nuts, and it didn’t help that it was my name that was said over and over at the end. Dead like Ka Kaiba. I stood up, feeling a chill and then feeling sick, I stumbled to the bathroom. When the sickness became too much for me, I guess I must have fallen asleep there, because when I awoke, I found that I was in a car that was going quite fast.
I looked up front to see Mr. Sho. He was pale and looked quite worried. I guess I scared him. I still wasn’t feeling that great, but the song was gone. Mr. Sho pulled into a parking space at the hospital. I guess even with me being awake, Mr. Sho wasn't taking any risks. I started to fight back when they told me I had to stay in the hospital for a couple days.
I guess I had worried myself sick.
“I’m fine,” I muttered as I jumped off the hospital bed.
“You're very sick. You can barely walk right.” a nurse muttered, but was trying to be nice.
I pushed past her, not caring at that point. I froze when I saw Jou coming. ‘Oh, no, they called him. I guess they would have to, being that Mr. Sho isn't my guardian.' I turned quickly, hoping to find Mr. Sho so he could get me out of there. I jerked when I felt the doctor grab me by my arm and stick a needle in it. A couple seconds later, I fell into the doctor arms, sedated, for fighting back.
A new dream started in my head, but only in bit and pieces. Something about a gun, Mokuba and Seto crying, Jou on a hospital bed, and a green liquid around my body. I jerked awake with that. I had machines hooked up to me, making annoying noises. I growled and pulled on the wires.
Then a hand stop me. “Ka don’t do that,” Seto mumbled. I hadn’t even notices him in the room. I slowly looked at him. I could tell he had been crying. Had I made my self that sick? Jeez.
I tried to talk, only to find that I had something down my throat. I started getting angry with the machines and started pulling on them again.
Seto growled and lightly hit my hand. “Stop it. You want them to sedate you again?” he muttered. “Beside, you’ll wake Mokuba.” Seto said, calmer.
I slowly looked over to find Mokuba in a chair, with his head on my bed. I pointed to the clock and then to myself. Hoping Seto would understand what I was trying to say.
Seto nodded understanding, “You been out for one day, and they want to keep you a couple more days, to see why you became so sick,” Seto mumbled. “And Jou's not too happy about it.” Seto said in a lower tone.
My eyes lit up with anger. ‘I think staying here is better then going back with him’ I thought, then I gently sighed and took Mokuba's hand that was resting on my bed. I could tell he was holding my hand before he fell asleep.
The door opened and Jou, along with May and a doctor, walked in. “Get that thing out of his mouth.” Jou muttered.
The doctor sighed. “It’s too early to take that out. He can’t eat normal food yet. He needs that.” The doctor said as he gently fixed the machine that I had pulled on.
“Look, doctor. My boys are strong, and Ka doesn’t need that damn thing!” Jou yelled.
“Mr. Kaiba, do you need to be taken out?” the doctor asked calmly, looking up. Jou growled.
I laughed loudly in my head. ‘Go, doc.’ I thought. Jou just found someone he couldn’t push around.
Jou looked at me. His eyes were dark and I could tell I was going to get it when I did get home. He wasn’t happy about me running out on his happy time. I returned the look. “Ka, I know you want out of here, but this loser thinks you’re really sick.” Jou muttered.
I looked at Mokuba, who was waking up. “Jou stop it!” May said gently as she sat down.
Mokuba gently smiled, seeing me awake. “Kayourok!” he said quickly. I tightened my hold on his hand and nodded. Mokuba happily smiled as fell back to sleep.
****4 days later****
I was better and was going home, but they made me stay in a wheelchair until the limo pulled up. I held on to a teddy bear that Mokuba had brought to me as an early welcome home gift. Even though the tube that had been down my throat had been taking out two days ago, I hadn’t been talking. I didn’t want to. Seto gently stopped the wheel chair by the limo door. He then helped me up and into the car.
My eyes stayed on him. ‘Seto, big brother, you’ve been there for me all the time. You stayed with me in that small room, even when Jou got mad at you for staying with me, when he said it was time to go. The couple of time you left were because Jou dragged you out, and you came back with some type of cut or blow on your body. You tried to be so strong, even when you’re still as little as Mokuba. I heard you cry at night, when you were the last in my room, staying with me. You even calmed me when that dream and song started again. Of course, I didn’t tell you what the dream was about. I didn’t even have the guts to tell you what Jou had done to me. Oh, Seto, I don’t deserve you as a big brother. I’ve caused you more pain. Seto, big brother...’ I thought, as I closed my eyes tightly.
I opened my eyes to find Seto looking at me, like he had heard what I'd said in my head. I gently smiled at him. Seto returned the smile. ‘Hey, he smiled. First one I’ve seen in a couple weeks.’
****
I looked around my room. ‘Nothing's been changed. Good they stayed out of my room, then.’ I put my small bag on my bed and went to sit. When my door opened and closed, I growled at who stood there.
Jou evilly looked at me. “Why did you leave, and you better answer me?” he growled.
I gave him a cold look. “Because, I could,” I muttered.
Jou stepped forward and grabbed a hold of my shirt caller. “You little brat!” He yelled.
“Go bite yourself” I yelled back. “I hate you. Stay away from me and my brothers.” Jou quickly hit me across the face. I yelped a little, but held most of the pained cry back. I looked back at him. “You think you're big now, for hitting a child. Ha. It just shows how small you are,” I growled.
That got to him. Yeah, that really got to him, to make him hit me harder. Jou threw me into the wall, not caring that Seto, Mokuba and May were downstairs. I slowly pushed myself up from the ground, only to get kicked in the stomach. Every time I went to get up, he would kick me. Harder every time.
The door flew open. Seto stood there, his blue eyes a cold ice color. “Leave him alone, you ass!” Seto yelled as he attacked Jou. Even Seto, who had taken on people that where taller and stronger than him, was no match for Jou. I sat up as I watched Seto and Jou.
Jou sharply hit Seto right in the face. Blood ran from Seto's nose. I growled, standing and attacked Jou, head on. I ran into him hard, making him hit his back on the wood part of my bed. That made him even angrier. He grabbed a hold of my neck and holds tightly. Then he tripped Seto, who had headed back into the fight.
“You two are asking for it,” Jou growled. Then he grined. “Why not bring the last brother of yours into this.” he whispered. I took a hold of his arm, trying to get him to let go. When I slammed my feet into his stomach, Jou gasped in pain, but he quickly regained his breath and slammed his fist into my stomach. That was it for me. I couldn’t move, so I stayed down. I closed my eyes when he grabbed a hold of Seto. I opened my eyes when I heard Seto being thrown into the wall, harder then I was. Jou then grabbed the whip that he'd brought in with him.
I was shocked as I watched Seto be whipped. “STOP IT. JUST STOP IT!” I yelled. That only caused Jou to whip me a couple times.
The door opened and May stood there with a gun. “Get away from them” she growled.
Jou slowly turned to her. “May, put the gun down,” Jou whispered. I could tell he was some what smiling. “You shoot, and you lose your boys forever. They’ll take you away.” Jou muttered.
May growled. “Get out of their room. I swear, the next time you touch them, I will kill you.” she yelled as Jou walked past her.
‘Love's funny like that, I guess’ I thought as I slowly fought with my body to sit up. May had put the gun back in the locked up box that Jou didn’t even know about.
Seto looked at me quietly. “You've got a big mouth,” He muttered.
“Yeah, well, I learned from the best,” I muttered back. Seto shook his head. I gently moved over to him. “Big brother, thanks you for trying to be my hero.” I mumbled, as I rested my head in Seto's lap.
Seto looked up at May, who had walked back in. “Jou left. He's staying at a so-called friend's house. Mokuba went with a friend to the movies. I’ll have him stay the night at Sho's or his friend's house, when he gets back.” May whispered as she got down near us.
‘She's scared too’ I thought quietly as I gently moved over to her lap. Seto moved into her arms too. She loved us, and never wanted this to happen to us. I wish she had pulled that trigger, but then we would be losing another family. I couldn’t lose another mother and father. I couldn’t bear to go back to the home with so many kids telling their horror stories. Hell, I had my own.
“No hospital,” Seto mumbled.
“It’ll just give Jou another reason to get angry,” I mumbled. May gently nodded as she cried. ‘She was hiding the real reason she didn’t fire’ I thought as I fell asleep.
