One
word comes to mind when trying to describe Big O. That word is abstract.
I watched the first 6-9 episodes during its intial run on
Cartoon Network some years ago. Unfortunately, I was not able
to finish the series then. I began hearing from people that
the show ends in a mystery of sorts. I heard that people complained
and even filed a petition to finish the series. Apparently,
the show was intended to run 20 some odd episodes. A lack of strong
support in Japan and money forced the people behind the show
to end it at the episode titled R.D.
The
story revolves around a negotiator named Roger Smith. The
locale is Paradigm City, a city with amnesia. You
see, nobody knows what happened 40 years prior. In present
time, Roger negotiates just about anything and with anyone.
His first case in the series is to negotiate for the well
being of a young lady named Dorothy. The thing is that
Dorothy is an android, and let's just say that things get quite
interesting between the two. Throw in giant robots, a butler,
an angel, and you have yourself quite a show.
I
received my second chance to finish the series, and I did. This
series definitely gets better as it progresses. R.D. left
me wanting for more. Batman art style isn't half bad. Big
O is definately a hybrid of many shows prior. Big O
season 1 enjoyed some success in America, hence the series received
a second life. Season 2 has just been finished due mainly
because of fans whom demanded more and of course
the backing of Cartoon Network. The tables have been set,
there is no need for introductions. It's
time to find out what happened 40 years ago.
*rating: 4/5
*genre: Mystery/Detective
story
*pros: Roger
Smith and Dorothy
*cons: Not
enough Norman or Angel time, and the ending is not an ending.
