Dai-Guard
A world where dimensional monsters come out
of nowhere at anytime to attack people on earth (but more specifically
Japan). That's right Dai-Guard is one of those anime that has huge
robots battling aliens to save the Earth.
Dai-Guard is a robot that was produced to fight off alien invasion.
However, it became a huge promotional gimmick, bought from the government
by a multi-billion dollar company, after the aliens ceased to attack
Japan. Once the aliens began their attacks the company's PR division
saw to it that the aliens would no longer terrorize their home.
There's never a dull moment in this anime. It does well in character
development but not so good in the plot department. If it weren't
for the characters, it would be just another mech anime that is
easily forgettable. But because the characters are done so well,
you'll find yourself wanting to see more of them than the action
that involves Dai-Guard. Not to say that the action is dull, because
it's a far away cry from being boring.
All in all, Dai-Guard does character involvement really well, and
it's its strongest point. Yet it never really explains why these
aliens keep attacking Japan, making the action seem senseless and
one dimensional. You'll find yourself enjoying more of how the characters
interact with each other than seeing Dai-Guard destroy a monster
after being beaten down to his mechanical underroos.
I rate this as A MUST SEE.
Genre: Action/Mech
Pros: Great characters
Cons: One dimensional plot
