Flame of Recca*

Ninjas... yep. Another tale of my favorite type of people. Well, Recca is a boy that has this huge influence of the ninja persuasion. The guy goes to school and gets into fights using he's ninja techniques. Even fights his dad with the same enthusiasm.
Basically, Recca finds out in a very bad way that he really is a ninja. He takes on a girl, whom has the ability to heal others, as his Hime or Princess. Well that's all and good except that he also has this female rival that doesn't take to kindly about being "the other girl". Add a highschool bully that gets bullied by Recca everyday; a senior classmen that sees Recca's newfound Hime as his little sister; and Recca's troubled older brother: and you got yourself an anime.
Flame of Recca has two parts. One part is the meeting of the main cast of characters. Once the main cast gets establish, they along with the audience, learn of what connects them to one another. Ala Yu Yu Hakusho, Dragon BallZ, Naruto, and other various anime that pits the cast of friends into tournament style fights, Flame of Recca's second part is just that: A tournament.
Recca is best described as the determined hero. His best quality is his determination to protect his Hime at all cost. His friends also display this same quality. Their "never give up" attitude makes for great drama. Even though, this quality is seen in a lot of the main characters, they each have many other traits that makes them more interesting. Recca's hotheaded, the senior classmen, Mikagami, is cool and calculating, Recca's rival, Fuuko, is a female version of Recca, Recca's Hime is the equivalent of Kenshin's Karou, and Domon is a brute that shows some brains every once and a while.
The animation itself is solid. When there is action, THERE IS ACTION... Not to much of the static moving character across the screen with blast lines in the background stuff. Though you do get those moments when the non active cast of characters commentate the fights. It's done with less words and it doesn't get as bad as Rurouni Kenshin.
Well, I can't find to many ninja series that rub me the wrong way, although there are a few that are out there. This isn't one of them. One of my favorite series. If you liked Rurouni Kenshin, Yu Yu Hakusho, or Hunter X Hunter, then Flame of Recca will definitely be one to watch.

I rate this as A MUST OWN.
Genre: Ninja action/adventure/super natural powers
Pros: Good characters, nice storyline, solid animation
Cons: I'm not sure if it'll be as good dubbed as it is subbed
* denotes that the anime is a fan sub and is not currently published in the U.S.
