GASARAKI
Rant, rant, rant, rant, and rant... Hehe,
I could do that all day about stuff I want to see in a good quality
driven animation that disappointed me. Well, let's say I didn't
do that.
Speaking objectively, Gasaraki is great at establishing the mood
and settings of it's story. The series is dialogue driven with some
nice action that is animated extremely well. Yet, the story itself
is not an easy one to understand. Or in Gasaraki's case: stay awake
on. The music in the opening and closing themes are amazing.
Gasaraki falls short on the timing of it's storytelling. It tries
to build suspense of what exactly Gasaraki is; but it's so long
and drawn out, that you don't really care anymore. Usually a long
and drawn out story could be remedied by some good character development
or some nice character interaction. However, alas, the timing on
bringing these characters to LIFE also takes a very, very long while.
Gasaraki has a nice soundtrack though.
The best parts of Gasaraki are somewhere in the middle of the series.
Yet, I'm afraid a lot of viewers would not have the patience to
watch it up to that point. By the way, did I mention how cool the
music is?
I did the best I could without ranting. I think I did pretty well.
Well, aside from the amazing animated action and the nice music
in the opening and closing themes, Gasaraki falls short more than
it leaps to be a good series. The bad timing on the overall story
and character development process just says boring. The suspense
is so subtle and drawn out that it seems like the story never goes
any where. If you're looking for some cool mechs and some nice visuals
then look no further. However, you may want to look elsewhere for
a more polished story that doesn't happen while you're asleep.
I rate this as a RENTAL.
Genre: Mech/Supernatural Action
Pros: Highly detailed animation.
Cons: Overall development of the story and characters move
at a turtle's pace.
