Quite possibly the best of the original series in the minds of most NES players out there. I'm not sure what exactly made this game such a legend in its own time. Perhaps it's the fact that the game is considerably longer than the other games. Maybe it's the fact that the difficulty wasn't too easy or too hard. Or maybe it's because the robot masters were just too darn cool. We may never know, but we'll still love MM3.
The plot is actually a bit more involving than previous Megaman games. Wily seems to have cast aside his evil ways and is working with Dr. Light on a brand new robot. Only problem is, they need some secial energy crystals, and they're being guarded by a bunch of berserk robots. Naturally, Megaman is called in to retrieve the crystals.
One small problem is that there was hardly any in-game explinations as to some of the stuff that was going on, such as the meaning of the appearences of Doc Robot. Protoman was an even bigger enigma. Exactly why did he leave Dr. Light to begin with? Why is he now working for Wily? Why did he call himself Breakman for a while? There has been plenty of speculation from the fans, but absolutly nothing from the games explaining this. While they may explain it in the future, it seems unlikely, as long as Megaman remains in the spotlight. (I still think Protoman at least deserves his own game with a solo role, if not his own series! ^^)
Anyway, the play control, graphics and sound were excellent for their time, keeping in the same tradition as its sibings. However, I found this game to be someone easier than most of the games. Perhaps it's because of Wily's fortress; it the easiest of any MM game out there (next to MM2GB).
