After the huge success that was MM3, fans were elated by the release of Megaman 4. Retaining the gameplay of the first three games, combined with several new features, MM4 became yet another hit.
A bit of a twist in the plot takes place here. A new scientist named Dr. Cossack steps forward and challenges Megaman with eight new robot masters. Stepping once more into the fray, Megaman is equipped with an upgraded Mega Buster, allowing him to charge his standard plasma shots. This is good, because the robot masters he faces are well-armored, and his standard blaster does hardly any damage.
Rush rejoins Megaman, along with a new partner, Eddie (also known as ‘Flip-Top’ in the earlier renditions of the manual). Eddie will show up in certain areas and present Megaman with a random power-up item.
The challenge level has increased a bit since the last game, but the game is still quite manageable. Graphics and sound are still quite excellent, with many memorable themes. Backgrounds are nicely detailed, but Megaman’s sprite still hasn’t changed by a single pixel since the first game. Well, they say if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it.
