Becoming an Immigrant

My decision of leaving Colombia was completely different at other peoples, because I had a stable life with two wonderful jobs as an Accountant without having financial problems.

My brother who is helping since I came here, got me a job in January 2000, but it was impossible for me abandon immediately my jobs; also I had to sell my furniture and car.  But the worse thing was that I was in loved.lug2m.gif - 1.8 K

Because my ex-boyfriend did not have a tourist visa, I changed mind and I went to Spain on August 2000.  I had to work in totally different things that I used to, like cleaning apartments and taking care a woman who suffered Parkinson.

I learned how to be an immigrant in order to survive.  Fortunately for a new immigrant law I got my Spanish residence, but it was struggle to stay for many hours waiting to be attended by immigration’s office.  I had to come around 12 midnight and sleep on the street in order to achieve and go in before it closed.  Seeing and enduring many kind of people who smelled bad without a shower was extremely awful while I was outside of the immigration’s office.

But at the same time, my American tourist visa would expire on September 12, 2001.  I sent my passport to Colombia with a friend who traveled there in August one month before it.  So, my mother went to the American Embassy in Bogotá in order to renew it and she received it, on Saturday September 8, 2001.  It was a miracle.earth6.gif

My tourist visa was renewed for others five years.  I had two thoughts in my mind, and I had to choose one of them. It was either to stay Spain or go to the United States that was a country that I really wanted to go wish that I had all my life.  So, I called my brother and he said to me, it is your choice, but if you want to come here, you have to commence your life again.  It is not easy; although the difference is that I am here to help you while in Spain you do not have anybody.

I came to the United Stated on January 5, 2002 and changed my status from tourist to student visa.  It has been a completely change.  I have studied all the time not only English but also to try to be licensed as a public accountant.  It has been a hard sacrifice not having a social life and not practicing my English speaking due to continues my studies to pass my certification in public accounting.  There are four exams that I have to pass, Financial, Auditing, Regulation, and Business Environment.

It makes me proud to have a wonderful family that God gave me.  Having a great brother who has been my economic support and many other aspects.

He is an excellent model as a humanity person.  My reflection is, if he could pass alone medical exams why not me?  It is a comprise for me to achieve my goal.

At the moment I have to put many pieces together in order to achieve a life that I used to have.

And then Relax

I love my mother too much!!!

Thanks mother
