Have you heard about the new Kingda Ka ride? Which soars up 456 feet in the air? Six Flags (in Jackson Township, NJ) has it, the fastest and tallest roller coaster on earth!! Sounds Interesting, huh? Well, if you want to go, here are some directions to Six Flags... Let me just say that Six Flags does not provide any alternate routes to New York (since a majority of the customers are from NY), which is a real shame.. In that case, I have created some alternate routes.. Here's why.. When the New Jersey Turnpike (I-95) becomes congested, people still use the turnpike since they (probably)don't know any alternate routes.. Since Six Flags didn't create any, I WILL! Here we go..: The italicized directions are the ones Six Flags has already posted.. To Six Flags Great Adventure FROM PHILADELPHIA: Take the Ben Franklin Bridge to Route 38 east. Take NJ Tpk north to exit 7A to I-195 east OR Route 295 north to I-195 east. Exit at 16A, then one mile west on Rte. 537 to Six Flags. FROM NEW JERSEY AREA: Take NJ Turnpike to exit 7A, I-195 east to exit 16A or Garden State Parkway exit 98, I-195 west to exit 16, then one mile west on Rte. 537 to Six Flags. FROM NEW YORK AREA: Take the George Washington Bridge, Lincoln Tunnel or Holland Tunnel to NJ Turnpike south to exit 7A. Proceed on I-195 east to exit 16A, then one mile west on Rte. 537 to Six Flags. Now my alternate routes from New York:
Alt. Route (from Tpk) from Exit 8A in case of Traffic Congestion:
If traveling down the NJ Turnpike, while approaching Exit 8A, and traffic is congested, exit the turnpike at Exit 8A in Monroe Township. After the 8A toll gate, take the ramp for Co. Rt. 535/US 130/NJ 32, towards Cranbury. At the traffic light, turn left onto 535, and use ramp on the right for Route 32. Take 32 west to US Route 130 and then take 130 south to I-195. Get onto 195, heading east, towards Shore Points, and the New Jersey Turnpike. Take 195 to Exit 16A.
--OR--
Get off in Monroe Township and after the tollgate, keep left for Route 32 east towards "Jamesburg." Cross over I-95 and turn right at the second traffic light onto CR 619/Applegarth Rd. Take 619 past 5 traffic lights. At the 6th, turn left onto Route 33 east. Follow Rt 33 east past the first light into Millstone Township. Turn right at the second light onto "Millstone Rd." Take Millstone all the way to CR 537 and then turn right.
Alt. Route (from Tpk) from Exit 8 in case of Traffic Congestion:
If traveling down the NJ Turnpike, while approaching Exit 8, and traffic is congested, get off at Exit 8 in East Windsor. After the toll gate, take Route 33 east, towards Freehold. Make a right at the 2nd traffic light onto Milford Rd. At the end of the road, turn left onto CR 571, Etra Rd. Take 571 south until you approach a messy 4-way intersection (one road will go to sharp right and the other will bear to the left). Bear left onto CR 1, Perrineville Rd. Follow Perrineville for about 1.8 miles. At a 4-way intersection, turn right onto Perrineville Rd (and follow that for 1.2 miles). After passing a lake on your right, turn right onto Millstone Rd. Follow Millstone Rd for about 3.8 miles (just keep going straight!) and then turn right at the light for CR 537, Monmouth Rd. Take 537 west and Six Flags will be approaching on the right...
--OR--
Get off at Exit 8 and turn left at 3rd light onto Route 133. Take 133 to US Route 130 south. Take 130 till you get to 195. Take 195 heading east, for Shore Points, and the New Jersey Turnpike. Take 195 to Exit 16A.
ALTERNATE ROUTE’S going back to New York:
Alt. Route to Exit 8A in case of Traffic Congestion:
If the NJ Turnpike is congested, take 195 to Route 130, and take 130 north. Take 130 to St. Route 32 east, towards Jamesburg. Then, use the NJ Turnpike entrance that is provided for Interchange 8A in Monroe Township. (The turnpike will have already divided.)
Alt. Route to Exit 8A if on Tpk:
If the NJ Turnpike is congested, while traveling north bound between Exit 7A and 8 (wishing to continue further north), get off the Turnpike at Exit 8 in East Windsor Township. After passing through the toll gate, get onto St. Route 33, towards Freehold. Go past 5 traffic lights. As you approach the 6th (in Monroe Township), prepare to use a jughandle for “PROSPECT PLAINS – APPLEGARTH ROAD.” Take the jughandle towards “Prospect Plains,” and which leads to County Route 619/Applegarth Road. Follow Applegarth Road for about 5 miles (through 5 traffic lights). At the sixth traffic light, turn left onto County Route 612/Forsgate Drive. Take 612 west for about 0.6 miles and enter the turnpike for Exit 8A in Monroe Township.
Please note:
The turnpike is being widened from Exit 8A south to Exit 6 in Mansfield Township. This should be finished by 2014. Expect possible delays.
