The episode opens with some sort of shrine standing alone at night. Then a light bursts from the shrine, and the wood shatters. There is some sort of concrete statue inside that is also split in half. Kohaku walks up and looks at the broken shrine, and holds up his clenched fist (Screen 1) When he unclenches it, we see that he is carrying 7 jewel shards. The next day, Inuyasha and the gang are heading Northeast in search of the evil presence they felt pass by them. While they walk they discuss what other presence could feel as evil as Naruku and wonder where he has went. The scene switches to Ayame and her wolf tribe. They are running away from some zombie-like creature that is devouring all demons in the area. Ayame notices that all demons from those parts are fleeing. The other wolf-demons from her tribe say that they will never be able to hold out without Koga, and they wish that Ayame could have convinced him to come back with her. A slew of demons suddenly comes at him, and Ayame and the elder split up to get way. The other wolf-demons attack the demons with their swords. Ayame asks why the demons are attacking them, and the elder wolf replies that its because the creature has eaten their usual prey and they are starving. Ayame guides her tribe across the river as demons continue to come at them. Ayame realizes that since the demons are down this far the creature must be coming down from the mountains. She defeats the weak demons with her tornado. Meanwhile, Koga asks his companions about the evil presence that passed overhead. They said it passes awhile ago but that it disappeared now. Koga see the river and realizes that it heads up to the Northern Mountains and so they much be by Ayame’s territory. There is a flashback to the time when Ayame tried to get Koga to marry her and return to the mountains with her (episode 83). As Koga gazes at the river and water fall up ahead, blood begins to run down the falls. (Screen 2) The scene cuts back to Ayame and her wolves running around the bend of a mountain cliff. Ayame’s Grandfather, the Elder, collapses and Ayame rushes to his side. (Screen 3) The demons are catching up, and Ayame’s uncle says he will draw them away. Ayame says that he’ll be killed, but he tells her not to worry and he begins running down the mountain side. Ayame calls for him to come back because he’s already injured and she doesn’t think he will make it. (Screen 4) Another of the wolf-demons tells her that they don’t have time and that they should leave now and not waste his sacrifice. (Screen 5) Ayame’s uncle is panting as he runs, and the demons soon catch up to him and attack him. Just then, Koga jumps out of the trees and defeats the demons. Ayame’s uncle, who is badly wounded, thanks Koga for tying to save him but says that he is too late. Koga asks him if he’s from the Northern mountain tribe. When he tells him he is Koga, the Uncle says he’s glad he had at chance to meet him. The Uncle tells Koga that they had to abandon their territory because of the zombie creature. He explains that the creature is not a human or a demon, and that it smells of grave dirt. The Uncle dies, and Koga buries him. Koga tells his tribe that they’re going after the creature. His wolves say that they thought they were going after Naraku, and they ask if they creature has anything to do with Naraku. Koga says he isn’t sure but he won’t leave someone be who has just killed one of their comrades. Koga also says that Inuyasha is coming this way and it would be annoying if he beat them. With that Koga takes off in his tornado. Inuyasha and the gang are still traveling Northeast, and Inuyasha notices Koga’s smell. Suddenly, a tornado appears in front of the gang. It’s Ayame. Inuyasha skids to a stop, and Shippo goes flying from his back and into Ayame’s arms. (Screen 7) Ayame tells them about the zombie. The scene switches to an old man monk and his apprentice. The are walking through long grass on the side of mountain, and the skies are dark and ominous. The young man is afraid and says he has heard talk of a zombie. The old man says he can take care of that with the power of Buddha, and he laughs. He stops laughing when he looks ahead and sees the sky turn red. The young man cowers in fear as trees begin to fall. A massive dark creature can be seen from beyond the trees. The creature is crunching on was appears to be a demon. (Screen 8) The demon turns toward them now and the apprentice tells his master to exorcise it. The old man hand shakes as he holds up some prayer beads. He realizes it hopeless and turns around and runs, and his apprentice follows after. The zombies eye’s glow red. Back with the gang, they are now resting in a cave. Kagome is bandaging the Elder wolf’s foot and Ayame is telling them everything they know about the zombie. (Screen 9) The gang decides that only Naraku could be behind something like this. Kagome tells Ayame that if they run into Koga they will tell him that she is ok, and then the two groups part ways. (Screen 10). The scene switches again to Kohaku standing in a tree. The creature can be heard crunching on something below. Kohaku speaks to him, addressing him as Master Kyoukotsu. He tells Kyoukotsu the one with the jewel shards will be there soon. Kyoukotsu tells Kohaku to go now, but he says first he will take Kohaku’s jewel shard. Kohaku attacks him with his weapon, cutting off his arm. Naraku’s insects are buzzing above Kohaku’s head, and Kyoukotsu realizes they’re being watched, and he says he values he life. He picks up his hand and it attaches to his body again with a purple glow. We can see a jewel shard glowing in Kyoukotsu’s forehead. Meanwhile, Koga’s wolf demon tribe continues to advance toward Kyoukotsu. Kyoutotsu springs out and confronts Koga, saying he’s the one with the jewel shards. Kyoukotsu tells Koga he will become part of him and with that Koga kicks Kyoukotsu in the head. Kyoukotsu is not injured, but he realizes that the shard’s are in Koga’s legs. Koga also reaizes that Kyoukotsu has a shard too. The two of them begin to battle it out. Koga kicks Kyoukotsu in the head and his shard emits a purple glow, which Inuyasha’s gang spot from over the mountains. Ayame’s tribe also spots the light. Both groups head toward’s Koga’s battle. (Screen 11) Back at the battle, Koga takes Kyoukotsu’s head and spins it round so it is upside down, and Kyoukotsu falls to the ground. Koga begins to walk away, thinking the battle is over. (Screen 12). But Kyoukotsu twitches to life and strikes Koga. Ayame arrives on the scene just as Kyoukotsu grabs Koga in his hand. He lifts Koga to his face and when Koga is close enough he punches into Kyoukotsu’s forehead and pulls out his jewel shard. With that Kyoukotsu melts away to nothing but a pile of bones. Koga tries to reach into the bones and grab the shard, which he had dropped, but Naraku’s insects pick it up and fly away. Ayame thanks Koga for getting revenge for her. (Screen 13) She goes to leave, and Koga tells her to be careful. She tells him that’s exactly what Kagome said. Kohaku is now with an incredibly feminine man, whom he calls Jakotsu. Kohaku has just told him that Kyoukotsu has died. Jakotsu says he was the weakest of them anyway. Then Jakotsu asks about Inuyasha, and asks whether he is cute or not. Kohaku tells him to judge for himself. Jakotsu says he can’t wait to meet him. (Screen 14).
