It’s nighttime, and Sesshoumaru and Jaken have just found a tomb that they have been looking for. There are wolves gathered around the stone tomb, and Sesshoumaru walks past them unafraid. He sees the wolves fangs as they are growling at him and he says that it’s a fang that he’s looking for. The wolves all lunge at him and Sesshoumaru kills them all with his whip (Screen 1). Jaken climbs on top of the tomb and holds his staff upright on it. The woman’s head on it begins to scream, and Jaken says that they may have been misled. Sesshoumaru says nothing and turns away. A group of human warriors is preparing for battle. Sesshoumaru comes across them and the people realize that Sesshoumaru and Jaken are not human, and try to kill them. (Screen 2) Sesshoumaru lets Jaken finish them off with fire from his staff. After that Jaken notices that the head on his staff has changed directions, which means the fang they are seeking has also changed directions.
Jaken and Sesshoumaru take off in a boat. Jaken asks Sesshoumaru if they could ask Inuyasha where the fang is (Screen 3). Sesshoumaru knocks Jaken out of the boat in response. Sesshoumaru says that Inuyasha is dead to him because he was sealed to a tree anyway (Screen 4), Jaken tells him that word is the spell has been lifted from Inuyasha and he also says that his staff has been acting strange.
Meanwhile, at the Bone Eater’s well, Kagome climbs out of the well and pulls out her pink bike too. While Kagome is riding her bike, she thinks about how she wound up in this strange version of Japan, and there are flashbacks to the pervious four episodes.
Back at Kaede’s village, Inuyasha is resting in a tree. Kagome finds him and tries to convince him to let her use her first-aid kit on him because of the wounds he got in the last battle. Inuyasha says he doesn’t need it (Screen 5). Kagome “sits” him. Kaede is walking along with some young children. Her arm is in a sling, and the kids ask her if she is better and if she is going to find the jewel shards soon. She tells them that they will find them, but maybe not soon. She says that it would help if Kagome and Inuyasha liked each other more though. Then they come up to Kagome and Inuyasha, and Kagome is trying to pull off Inuyaha’s kimono in order to bandage him and yelling at him to “undress”. Kaede sees them and doesn’t know what’s going on so she tells the children to avert their eyes and then she says that maybe they like each other more than she thought (Screen 6). Inuyasha and Kagome are embarrassed, and Inuyasha quickly gets up. He pulls back his kimono a little to show Kagome that the wound is gone, and tells her that his body is different from a human’s. Kagome is surprised. As Inuyasha is pulling his kimono back up, he notices a flea sucking his blood. He swats it and then he notices that the flea is Myoga. Inuyasha asks Myoga why he came to see him. As Myoga begins to talk Kagome sprays him with bug spray.
A little later, everyone is sitting inside and Myoga is telling Inuyasha that someone is looking for his father’s tomb. Myoga says that Inuyasha’s father was a very strong demon. Kagome then asks him about Inuyasha’s mother. Myoga starts to say how beautiful she was, but then Inuyasha squishes him with his elbow and walls off in a huff. He leaves and tells them to drop it because she died a long time ago. Kagome says she’s sorry if something she said made him upset. Myoga says that Inuyasha doesn’t like to talk about his mother.
Outside, Inuyasha is sitting in his tree in the moonlight (Screen 7) Kagome rides up on her bike. Kagome is thinking about why Inuyasha is so upset, and then she realizes that it must be because his mom is human and he must hate her for it. Kagome thinks of her own mother and wonders how anyone could hate their mom. Suddenly, a breeze picks up around them and Inuyasha jumps out of the tree and pushes Kagome to the ground. He tells her to get down because something is coming. They both look up towards the moon and they see that a carriage in the sky with a chained woman in it. Inuyasha is staring up at her and Kagome asks him what wrong. Inuyasha only says, “Mother!” Kagome says that it can’t be his mother because she died. A giant claw comes out of the sky and grabs the carriage and starts crushing it. The creature is now holding Inuyasha’s mother in its hand. Kagome says, “he’s going to hurt your mom” and Inuyasha says, “No, he’s not!” and takes off. Jaken is sitting on the creatures arm and spits fire at Inuyasha with his staff, but he misses. Sesshoumaru is also with him and tells him that he wants Inuyasha dead after they’re done with him. Inuyasha recognizes Sesshoumaru and Sesshoumaru calls him little brother. Kagome starts to ask why he called Inuyasha his brother, and Sesshoumaru wonders what a mortal woman is doing with Inuyasha. He says that others would be shamed to be with mortals but it suits Inuyasha. Sesshoumaru then asks him where their father’s tomb is. Inuyasha tells him that he has no idea. Sesshoumaru says that his mother’s suffering might convince him otherwise, and he has the chains tightened around her, hurting her. Inuyasha says that he won’t be fooled because they both know that she has been dead for years. Sesshoumaru calls Inuyasha a fool, and Inuyasha’s mother calls to him that she has come back. Inuyasha suddenly becomes angry that his mother is being hurt and so he attacks and rips the hand that is holding her apart. She falls to the ground and Kagome runs to her. Inuyasha tells them to get out of there, but Sesshoumaru sends the monster at them. Inuyasha runs to save them and the claw hits him. Inuyasha’s mother creates a bright ball of light and lets it go.
Inuyasha and Kagome are then lying in a dreamy, peaceful place on the grass. Inuyasha wakes up and wonders where they are. Inuyasha’s mother walks up to him and tells him that they are in the border between this world and the spirit world (Screen 8). She tells him that she has to cross over soon. They begin to walk away from where Kagome is laying. Inuyasha’s mother tells him that he has become a man, and he says that he had to when she went away. Now, Kagome is beginning to wake up also. She opens her eyes and sees Inuyasha and is mother standing by the water. Kagome tries to move, but finds that she can’t. Then she looks down into the water and sees that the reflection of Inuyasha’s mother has no face. Startled, she tries to call out to Inuyasha but her voice won’t work either. Kagome watches as Inuyasha’s mom steps closer to him and thinks to herself that that is not Inuyasha’s mother, and the episode ends.
