Showdown! Inuyasha vs. Sesshomaru

This episode begins where the last one left off, with Kagome pulling the Tetsusaiga out from it’s platform. Sesshoumaru stops his attack on Inuyasha when he see’s Kagome has the sword (Screen 1). Inuyasha tells Sesshoumaru not to look at her and tries to attack him, but Sesshoumaru is already heading towards Kagome. Kagome is startled when Sesshoumaru comes up right beside her. He asks her how she was able to draw the sword (Screen 2). Myoga, who is sitting on Inuyasha’s shoulder now, says it’s a good think Sesshoumaru is after her now and not them and Inuyasha yells at him to be quiet. Inuyasha yells for Sesshoumaru to leave Kagome alone because she isn’t involved in their fight. Sesshoumaru tells Inuyasha that Kagome must die because she was able to draw the sword when neither he nor Inuyasha could do it. Inuyasha says that she’s just a human girl, and then he tells Kagome to just give Sesshoumaru the sword. Kagome tells him she won’t give it to him because since he couldn’t pull it out he wasn’t meant to have it, so she says he’ll have to come take it from her. Inuyasha tells her not to be stupid and that she’s just a human girl and she should back off. Sesshoumaru is getting impatient now, and tells Inuyasha that he’s astonished by how Inuyasha is patient with Kagome and indulges her. He says that Inuyasha even seems to love her. Sesshoumaru turns toward Inuyasha and tells him that he didn’t inherit feelings like that from their father, so it must have been Inuyasha’s mother that he got it from. Then Sesshoumaru turns toward Kagome and sends a deadly green blast her way. Kagome yells for Inuyasha and holds the sword out in front of her, but everything begins to melt around her and it looks as if she’s a goner. Sesshoumaru comments on how fragile humans are. Now Inuyasha is mad and goes to attack his brother, but Sesshoumaru grabs him with his fluffy scarf thing and throws him into the ground. Sesshoumaru then begins hitting Inuyasha with his whip. He tells Inuyasha not to forget his place and calls him a worthless half-breed. This makes Inuyasha remember his childhood.

A group of villagers are playing with a ball and a young Inuyasha tries to join them, but as soon as he walks up to them, they throw the ball and leave. Inuyasha chases after it (Screen 3). Inuyasha says quietly, “half-breed?” He then runs to his mother and asks what a half-breed is. His mother has tears in her eyes.

Inuyasha tells Sesshoumaru he doesn’t care if he’s a half-breed or not, but he gets angry when people insult his mother. He then goes to attack Sesshoumaru, saying that this is for his mother. He strikes again and says “and this is for Kagome”. Sesshoumaru looks almost frightened for a second, and part of his armor breaks off. Sesshoumaru says, “All that for a dead mortal girl. If I knew that’s was it took to make you fight I would have killed her sooner.” Inuyasha begins to trash talk Sesshoumaru, when suddenly Kagome rises out of the pile of goo she was buried under (Screen 4). Inuyasha looks surprised. Kagome then turns toward Sesshoumaru and says angerly, “You tired to kill me, didn’t you?!” She then walks over to Inuyasha and says gives him the sword and tells him that she thinks they may have underestimated it (Screen 5). Inuyasha looks astounded and confused and asks how come she’s still alive. Kagome looks at her hands and says “uh, I dunno”. Sesshoumaru says that it was the sword that protected her (Screen 6). A glow of purple engery surrounds Sesshoumaru and air begins to swirl around him. Kagome hides behind Inuyasha and the skulls from the floor begin to fly up and a few hit Inuyasha in the head. Inuyasha doesn’t flinch (Screen 7). Sesshoumaru says he’s going to see if a half-breed can even wield the Tetsusaiga. His eyes turn red and he transforms into a huge dog, his true demon form (Screen 8). Inuyasha laughs and says now that he’s using the sword he’ll win for sure. He tells Kagome to go hide until its over, and then he jumps up and strikes Sesshoumaru with the sword. Inuyasha is puzzled because the sword didn’t even make a scratch. He dodges Sesshoumaru and asks Myoga why the sword isn’t working. Myoga says it’ll make a lovely heirloom and tells him not to let Sesshoumaru push him around, then he runs off. Poison acid is dripping from Sesshoumaru’s mouth, causing the cave to fill with green vapor. Inuyasha tells Kagome to climb up to get away from it. Myoga is climbing the wall next to Kagome now too, and he tells her to keep climbing because even a demon can’t say in those fumes for long. Kagome is worried and asks if Inuyasha will be alright. Myoga says probably not. Inuyasha is starting to feel the effects of the fumes now, and says his arms and legs are going numb. Sesshoumaru takes the opportunity to grab Inuyasha in his mouth and begins to crush him. Inuyasha takes the sword, and stabs it into Sesshoumaur’s eye causing him to flinch in pain and let Inuyasha go.

Sesshoumaru breaks though the roof of the cave and now everyone is outside of the tomb. Inuyasha is still frustrated with the sword, which is doing him no good against Sesshoumaru as he hits him with it. Kagome is cheering Inuyasha on and says that she thinks the first strike hit and that the sword is working, and Inuyasha gives her a confused look and asks her what she’s talking about. Kagome says that it’s his sword now and all he has to do is believe in it like she believes in him. Sesshoumaru licks his paw where Inuyasha stabbed it. Inuyasha says that that Kagome is nuts. He says he’ll live because he’s a half-demon, but she doesn’t have a change. Kagome begins to cry and asks if he’s saying she should just give up hope (Screen 9). Inuyasha starts to freak out and yells “No crying!” (Screen 10). Kagome responds, “Oh, should I laugh?” Inuyasha yells back, “No, you should shut up and let me protect you!” Kagome is surprised at this, but says nothing. Inuyasha tells Kagome to say there and watch and he moves toward Sesshoumaru. Kagome is still surprised at what Inuyasha said, and says that in some ways he’s like his brother and other ways he’s totally different. With a determined look, Inuyasha holds out his sword and suddenly it begins to pulsate. Inuyasha gives the sword a puzzled look (Screen 11). Jaken is cheering Sesshoumaru on telling him to bite Inuyasha’s head off, and Kagome shuts him up by throwing skulls at him. She thinks to herself, “You can do it, I just know it”. Inuyasha jumps up and slices up Sesshoumaru leg. After Inuyasha lands on the ground again he notices the sword has changed, and now looks like a fang. It appears the sword has cut off Sesshoumaru’s leg (Screen 12). Inuyasha says that his father really did leave him something worthwhile. Inuyasha tells his brother that while they are fighting over their father’s sword, both of them are nothing compared to what their father was. Inuyasha says that it was him that his father gave the sword to and it was him that he chose to hide his tomb in, so maybe he isn’t so worthless after all. Sesshoumaru roars at this and then Inuyasha slices him again across the chest. Sesshoumaru falls backward down the side of a cliff and transforms into a small balls which flies away. Jaken goes running after him screaming “Don’t leave me!” Inuyasha stands there panting and Kagome runs up next to him (Screen 13). Inuyasha laughs and says that he was wrong about the sword being a piece of junk. Myoga jumps to his shoulder and says that he told him so. Inuyasha is about to squish him when Myoga stops him and says that he wasn’t running away before, he was getting them a ride home. He points to a skeleton bird. Inuyasha smiles at him and says, “O so you didn’t run away” (Screen 14), (Screen 15). Myoga then says he admits he was running away, but if he had known Inuyasha would make a come back he wouldn’t have done it. Inuyasha squishes him then.

In the next scene, Kagome and Inuyasha jump out of the portal and it closes up and the pearl falls back into Inuyasha’s eye. Kagome asks him how he’s doing, and Inuyasha rubs his eye and says he’s doing ok, especially since he knows his father can rest in peace. Later, Kagome is sitting with Kaede and Kaede asks her how she was able to pull the Tetsusaiga. Kaede says that Kagome continues to amaze her. Myoga says that he believes Kagome could pull the sword because she was mortal. Myoga says the sword was made to protect Inuyasha’s mother, and that it was Inuyasha’s feeling toward mortals that allowed him to wield the sword properly. Kagome remembers that the sword reacted after Inuyasha told her that he would protect her. Kaede says that such feelings are impossible for Sesshoumaru so he can never wield the sword. Kaede says since Inuyasha’s father chose him for his tomb, maybe Inuyasha resembles their father more that Sesshoumaru does. Meanwhile, Inuyasha is sitting in the tree outside swinging his sword and looking at it with a perplexed expression (Screen 16). Inuyasha says he spoke to soon because the sword is back to being a piece of junk again. Kagome walks up and excitedly asks him if he wants her to tell him how he can change the sword back. He jumps down next to her and asks what makes her an expert. Kagome asks him if he will promise to protect her with if forever. He gives her a weird look and says her brain must be broken (Screen 17). Kagome whines that he told her that he would protect her. Inuyasha says that he didn’t mean it like that and a sword like that should really be used to make him stronger, not baby-sit a weak human like her. He starts to walk off across a bridge. Kagome walks up and pushes him to the middle of the bridge, then she walls back to the shore and says “Sit boy!” Inuyasha crashes through the bridge. Kagome walks away, and Inuyasha crawls up the river bank and calls after her to wait because he thought she was going to tell him how to use the Tetsusaiga.
