02/24/05 Recording this weekend, and next. Gonna be good! Had a bunch of fun at the Liar's Club 5th anniversary a couple weeks back. Louis is the best. If you're ever in the Mission Beach neighborhood you better get in there and order a Fuego Melt. Tell them the Heartaches sent you for a free punch in the mouth! LIAR'S CLUB RULES
01/11/05 We've had some exciting shows since the last post. Holy Chit! Alex's bar in Long Beach is killer. Home cooked grub was served up to the bands prior to the show. Damn good! We're working on a new LP which should hit the streets late spring or early summer. Once again we will be recording at the mighty Earthling Studio in beautiful El Cajon California. London has ToeRag, we have Earthling. So there.
08/19/04 Gone Skating for the rest of the summer, we'll be back in October!
05/26/04 Holy Moly I'm busy! Sorry for the lack of posting. Lots of things have been happening. Songs in a couple of videos in progress. Some great shows. Check out the Red Onions, those dudes rock! I'll be back at ya with some news someday.
02/02/04 New Website in the works! El Greaser from world famous Thee Corsairs is doing us up. Thanks Grease! Until then, I'm not gonna screw with this one much. Captain Fuzz is the proud papa of a mini Fuzz. Hey Rosalyn! Congrats to Mr and Mrs Fuzz. Senior Fuzz reported straight from the delivery room to the stage to save the day at the Martini Ranch. He'd been up almost 48 hours. Good times, we had some fun. New shows in the works. New recordings in the works. Lots of plans. March show with the Von Bondies should be a good one. Later dudes and dude-ettes.
11/17/03 Friday I got the news that Sr. Svitak was out with a tweaked shoulder so we had to scramble to find a fill-in for Saturday night. Mario (see previous post) stepped in and rocked the house after only one run through each song. I can't even begin to tell you how much the dude rips. We owe him BIG. Svitak should be back in full swing in time for our show at the Ken on the 5th of December. Fun times at the Leucadian. John Finkbiner of the Stereotypes put on a good show. Standouts were the Silver Sunshine. Those guys never cease to amaze me and they just landed a record deal. Mike Kamoo will be recording their LP.
10/14/03 Sooooooooooooo. We've made an addition to the band since last we spoke. El Mano Del Diablo will be holding down 2nd guitar from here on out. Billy Dee is just a singing fool now. We have a show this Friday with Mario Rubalcaba's band Mannequin Piss and Ethan Fowler's band The Weekend Blacks. It's gonna be a good, I can feel it. Mario kicks ass. He's in the following bands; Rocket From the Crypt, Earthless, Mannequin Piss, Battalion of Saints, The Testors, The Hot Snakes, Blackheart Procession...Crap, the list goes on and on. Anyway, I saw Earthless play last week and I cannot even begin to explain the insanity that I witnessed. Mario broke both sticks and his drum pedal 1/2 way through the last song and finished up with broken sticks and a foot kicking the crap out of the bass drum. Didn't miss a beat... The Dude is an animal! We have an exciting show coming up in November at the Leucadian in Encinitas. It's an all day event put on by the Stereotypes John Finkbiner. Most of the bands playing have recorded at Mike Kamoo's Earthling Studios (the place rules). Twelve bands are playing so far. We're going on last at around midnight. Gonna be fun. Mark your calenders; Saturday, November 15th!
08/22/03 So...We recorded saturday the product of which will be available sometime soon. Built for Speed rules, you'll see. Mixing on tuesday so we should be all wrapped up then. We played at the Ken with Silver Sunshine and the Buttons the night of recording. Silver Sunshine is my favorite band in San Diego. Their songs and sound are incredible. They borrow heavily from many of my favorite bands, but that's why I like em. They do it right. PopSike in the vein of SF Sorrow era Pretty Things, Tomorrow and late 60's Pink Floyd, maybe throw in a little Move and Yellow Submarine era Beatles and there you have it. Good stuff. We had a great time. By the time we were done we were all completely soaked. Somebody patted me on the back and it splashed.
08/15/03 We played the Martini Ranch with Cheerleader 666 from Canada and The Special Guest. Fun show, The Special Guest are super cool, putting some fun into the overly serious music scene here in town. Good shit, good things to come from these guys.
Cheerleader 666 ripped through their brand of Motley Crue meets Murder City Devils. Nice and loud. I guess they're off to Europe to tour with Hanoi Rocks and Motorhead. Good for them.
We unleashed a few new tunes on the strange Martini Ranch crowd. My guess is that that's the first and last time a G.G. Allin song will ever fill the air in that club. Ha ha. Fun times.
07/21/03 I just got the horrible news that 3/4ths of The Exploding Hearts died when their van rolled while driving back to Portland from San Francisco over the weekend. They were a great band, a glimmer of hope in todays homogenized music world. My heart goes out to their families and friends.
07/21/03 The Heartaches will be playing @ The Ken on the 16th of August with Silver Sunshine and the Buttons. Looking forward to a great show. Svitak will be back behind the ol' drum-pieces.
07/12/03 We played the Ken with The Liquorice Quartet last night. It was bitchin' show. The Liquorice Quartet is great farfisa fueled 60's pop. We got things rolling and had one of our best sets to date. Thanks to everybody that showed up.
06/09/03 The show with Earthless was a lot of fun. They are a good bunch of guys. Wailing too. I thought Hawkwind hooked up with Sabbath and had a Hendrix love child for a minute. LOUD is the operative word in any sentence describing them. We put in a fun set, Svitak was in prime form. Things are looking good.
THE BUZZCOCKS ARE TOURING Go see them, they blew my damn head off in San Diego. Great show! One of my FAVORITE bands. They played all their classics plus a handfull of good new songs.
06/02/03 Our new basser has added some much needed thump to our sound. Marc Loon has been holding it down and will remain our steady four-stringer. Collin "El Corazon" Corrigan filled in on drums at the past two shows. Our deep thanks go out to him for coming through in a pinch. Viva East County. We played with Earthless and Silver Sunshine last week and the show was damn good. Silver Sunshine ripped through two Tomorrow covers that were awesome and their own songs are unbelieveable. Earthless is amazing, check them out when you can. Sabbath/Hendrix guitar work set to some psyched out drums and bass lines. We're playing with Earthless again on June 7th at the Ken in San Diego. The Svitak will be back on skins.
05/28/03 We played our first show with the new lineup on Saturday and it was BAD ASS. With a special appearance by Thad Vomit on stunt guitar the show was complete mayhem. The Leucadian is lots of fun to play. Thanks to John Finkbiner of the Stereotypes for getting some rock and roll shows going in north county San Diego. Our show with the Faction is set for next month. As a fan of the Faction in the 80's I'm pretty fricken excited about this show.
04/28/03 Check out MP3.com for a taste of the new EP! ROCK N'ROLL UFO!!!
04/14/03
Packaging for the EP has taken a little longer to work out than expected. We should have it completed this week. Advanced copies have people freaking out. You will not be disappointed. The EP is called Aftermath.
It includes the recently recorded 6 songs plus some bonus live tracks from a couple of different shows. I've created a site for us on MP3.com which should go up in 10 days or so. I'll link to the page when it's official.
03/17/03 We recorded over the weekend and have 7 hit songs to unleash on the world. One will go to Sessions Records for the comp mentioned below, six others will be released on our own record label. Our 6 song ep will be available for sale right here online.
The tunes were put to tape and sound bitchin'. You will not be disappointed. More info on the recording will be posted soon.
03/13/03 We're going to have a song out on the Sessions comp shown below. Due out in a month or two. Should be good; Duane Peters, The Sten Guns (lance mountain), Sugar Shack (john gibson), Smut Peddlers!
A bunch of cool bands. We should also have an ep to hawk on this website. Soon. See ya.
03/04/03 Hey, the wheels have been turning over here at Heartache central. We have a few things in the pipeline. First and foremost, we will be recording at Mike Kamoo's Earthling studio in beautiful El Cajon California on ANALOGUE equipment. That's right! Our shit will be real, not some cobbled together pseudo-band digital bullshit. Man, with that crap they can make joe schmoe on the street sound exactly like every other band in the United States. It makes me cringe when I think of all the techno crap that is being pawned off as bands playing instruments. We will deliver the REAL goods to tape, then to 7" and a cd single for everybody that does not own a record player. Get with the program, cd's suck! Those fricken things scratch easier than records, you better believe it. The only benefit to cds is playing them in cars. We have parted ways with yet another bass player. (see our welcoming paragraph a few spaces below) We have a replacement basser in the wings ready to roll. In the rumor mill; Show with the Adicts? Show with the Briefs? Hmmm...Stay tuned and I'll fill you in.
02/12/03 Alright! Our frickin' Two city, monthlong tour draws to an end tonight. We had a great time at the Liar's Club. Louis and Christine are the the most hospitable hosts ever. Get down there, they have the best damn burger in San Diego, I swear. Tonight we're playing with Mike V. and the Rats up in wonderful Downey. After that we're taking some time off for some new songs and recording. We'll be back in May ready for some action. (Svitak is going to Europe for all of April anyway)
Possibly we'll play a surprise show somewhere here or there. Check the news.
01/31/03 Martini Ranch last night. Great time. We're psyched all our friends made it out. Sam and the Poor Specimen guys rule for lining this up.
El Mano Del Diablo on bass for this one and he ripped it.
01/29/03 We played Scolari's office again on Monday for some dudes birthday party. It was fun, but what the hell is going on!? It's like a fricken hockey match in that place. Jocks ruining it for everybody. Cheap Sex played after us and were good. Check them out for a hardcore fix. We cleared out right after they played and I guess it was just in time cause I heard a full scale bar-room brawl broke out later in the night. Yippee!
01/27/03 Last week was a little out of hand. Working 9-10 hour days, driving for an hour and a half playing/drinking/rocking out, driving home, unloading the van...It starts to wear on you after a while. Three such shows last week, it was rough. Our best showing was at the Osiris/88Shoes/Hollywood party in Long Beach. We played with the Plug Uglies and AC/DShe. The Plug Uglies had a great set and rocked the house, the best set I've seen them play. Dave on the ol' drums was wailing.
AC/DShe was awesome, check them out if they play in your vicinity. The are a lot of fun. Angus was our favorite (although they were all pretty fricken hot)
The folks at Alias know how to throw a party and treated everybody right. Thanks for having us.
01/22/03 The Black Label video premiere went down and it was bitchin'. A great video! Run out and buy it. RagDoll's part is alltime. We had a good time playing (although I couldn't hear anything other than my own guitar) The Crowd, The Hunns and the Stitches fuckin' rule. We're doing the same show again tomorrow night in Long beach, then back to Long Beach Friday night for the 88Shoes/Hollywood skateboards bash. Living in the fast lane I tell ya! It's been hard to keep my eyes open at work...
01/20/03
Friday we played a show at Scolari's Office. Lots of fun...Immediately after loading our shit into the place some goon from the first band walked out the door with our bass drum and started to load it into his truck. Dude probably deserved a good ass whoopin' but who knows, maybe he really thought it was his shit. Whatever. The Shemps from NY rocked...Good vintage tone with New Bomb Turks-esque vocals. Check them out. They are really good. We played a sloppy ass set but had a great time. No stage, broken bottles and thin converse kept the fear of chopped off toes high.
Oh yeah, there were six damn bands. I'm not sure if I should be psyched that we headlined or bummed that we played last. Super big thanks to everyone for sticking it out til 12:45 when we finally went on.
Stitches/Hunns/Crowd/Heartaches tonight @ Black Label premiere!!!
01/14/03
After a nice restful month of December and putting the crappy year of 2002 to bed, The Heartaches are making a run from the money in 2003. Having turned down a 10 million dollar contract with a Warner/Time/Sony/ClearChannel subsidiary, The Heartaches proudly maintain their "Lone Wolf" status. Ride Free Brother. We have a whole gaggle of shows in January and more to come in the following months. Keep on the lookout...Check the other pages for show dates.
12/06/02
We played the Doll Hut a couple of weeks ago. That place is a lot of fun. Nice and small with a good vibe. We opened for Broken Bottles and Smut Peddlers. It was a rockin' show. Since then Bill & I have been putting our heads to the creative grindstone to kick out a whole new set of songs to freshen up the live experience. Jon Worthless is now an official member of the heartaches. With his addition our average height has been bumped up to 6'1". Think about that for a second...
10/29/02
The Bigfoot Lodge in Los Feliz rules. Check it out if you are in the LA area. It is a good time. Dave Young hooked us up with grub, beer and a cool show. Thanks. We're playing there again for sure. It was like playing in...well...a lodge! Dionyses records has a hand in it's coolness, and they put out some good shit. They've issued The Controllers, the Dils and the Gears LPs along with many other punk rock classics.
Rock on!
10/28/02
Friday was interesting. We played with the Smut Peddlers again. They are one of the coolest bunches of people I know. Get their LP/CD "Ism" out on Ransom Records now. Another special thanks to Gish for the use of his bass rig. It was John Worthless' 2nd show with us, we're psyched to have him aboard. OC seems to be skintown USA. There was basically a football team's worth of wife-beatered bald ones at this show. I don't think they get us, as far as I'm concerned, that's fine. We'll be going into the studio in a couple of weeks to bang out a couple of songs with ol' Jonny boy at the engeneering helm. Stay tuned, we'll get something out soon, if it kills us.
I went to see The Damned last night. What the fuck is going on?! You'd think that a band that once rocked so hard would have a clue as to what people want to hear. I was dissappointed to say the least, however, they will remain one of my favorite bands of all time. Damned Damned Damned, Music for Pleasure, Machine Gun Etiquette and The Black Album are classics. (lots of people skip the black album, but I think it's genious)I don't particularly dislike their new stuff, but the show was boring as shit, and the "versions" of their classic songs left a lot to be desired. How could you blow "neat neat neat" ?! Without Brian James or Rat Scabies I guess I should have expected so much. The dude playing the keys looked like he was having a blast and kept me mildly entertained. Lose the effects and play some rock and roll you old farts.
10/14/02
The "Dying To Live" afterparty was complete mayhem. (As was the video premiere) Probably the most fun show we've played yet. Beer + Slippery floor + pogoing = bodies everywhere. Thanks to Jamie Thomas for having us play AND his continued support. Thanks to The Classified for the use of their bass rig. And a huge thanks to Jon Worthless for filling in on Bass while El Mano Del Diablo was in Australia. RawKandy went on after us. I had a shocking and disturbing realization, girls really do love hair-bands.
Weird.
10/6/02
The show in Huntington Beach was a blast. The Beer City Rockers are great. Check them out if you get the chance. They started things up right with straight ahead roots Punk R&R with the Gretsch/Les Paul sound. Plug Uglies kept things rolling, spot-on version of Ace O' Spades. Tough Crowd, we got some pretty blank stares from the skins as we launched into our set. The fact that we weren't jumped afterward meant they loved us...Shit, somebody was stabbed out back afterward. Fun Fun Fun!
The Smut Peddlers got things really moving after us, only to be cut short by the stabbing. The Liquid Den Rocks. Thanks Lob, and Thanks Smut Peddlers!
[I guess Lob banned the Smut Peddlers from Liquid Den after this show. That's fucked. A band shouldn't be held accountable for the actions of boneheads in the crowd.]
10/4/02
Things are picking up steam. We played a really crappy (we sucked) show last night to benefit the Washington Street Skatepark here in San Diego. Thanks to the many that came out only to see us suck-it bad due to poorly tuned guitars. Our new basser is deadly. Viva El Mano Del Diablo! Svitak pounded the skins to the joy of the RFTC camp. Thanks to April from Vena Cava for getting us the show.
I went and saw Arthur Lee and Love perform at UCLA on Friday night. Probably the smartest thing I've done all year. See ya!
Word on the street is we're getting some radio play down here is San Diego.
Senor Svitak will be out of town, out of the country and out of his head for next to the entire summer. All shows will be played with a fill in drummer. We kicked around the idea of a drum machine but "Echo and the Heartache Men" just doesn't roll off the tongue. So, we have a couple of dudes lined up to help out when called upon.
Ripping!
In other news:
We've added a percussion section to our unit. The Assasin will be holding down the tamborine, maracas and switchblade at all shows from here on out. BEWARE...
Don't sweat me Jack, I'm doing this crap as fast as I can.
