Love, Nixon
I found a picture in a book of reference photos and magazine clippings in my high school art class years ago. Probably in my sophomore year. That photo was the basis for this piece. Four years ago, I would not attempt to transcribe the grace and violence of that anonymous (at least to me, I couldn't find who the photographer was) photo. But as the years passed, I had the picture tacked up on my wall, as a goal, I was working towards doing that picture justice in my own way. Of course, I wasn't going to plagiarize whomever this photographer was, so I made the picture my own once I decided to start on it. One boxer became a Mexican wrestling star, and the other, a half man-half bunny minotaur of sorts. Making the bunny all beat up like the pugilist whose head I replaced was the most fun part of making this piece.
