Wealdstone 1 - 0 Thame United.
Wealdstone started off this game having 4 points from 2 games. After Stones victory against Clacton Stones were hoping for a better performance than the last one.
The first half didn't produce too many chances but there was a lot of diving about and poor challenges from the Thame side and it was a Thame United player who disgraced himself when he started a tussle with Steve Bircham he pulled Bircham by the hair and actually biting Bircham. The Tham player didn't stop on Bircham even when 21 players were involved in this brawl. The Thame number 9 (Ronnie Joe) was rightly sent off but then to everyone's amazement Steve Bircham was also sent off. The question was why he was sent off? well there isn't much you can do when a player who is out of his mind starts hitting you all Bircham did was try to defend himself.
This incident livened the game up and the half-time score was 0 - 0.
Stones took a lead 3 minutes into the second half when Carl Holmes headed home from a short distance out. Brian Jones came close just a couple of minutes later with a shot which went across the face of goal. Joe Lyons had the best attempt of the game with a screaming shot which was well saved by the diving Thame keeper. Rocky Baptiste also had a chance too make things 2 - 0 when he was put through 1 on 1 with the keeper but could only put it straight at him. Thame had a couple of brakes at goal with their number 2 having the best of the chances but an Eddie Boxford challenge broke that chance for Thame. Stones took the 3 points in the end and have now moved up into second place in the league with Bedford top who won once again 1 - 0.
