The hallway
This is before painting. There is just one picture, showing just one view, but it's enough to get the idea that is was ALL white!
So, let's start with this picture, cause it shows you the entry to the apartment, which is the wooden door to the right. The entry door faces the dining room archway. The picture is taken standing in my boyfriend's office/workshop and you can see the kitchen at the other end of the apartment. The hallway is divided into two parts, which I call the entry and the corridor.
I was facing somekind of a challenge with the painting of this "room" because the entry part has crown molding but the corridor part doesn't. And in the entry, as you can see, we have two wooden doors with wood trim (gorgeous by the way, to my taste anyway!) but all the rest of the doors and trims were painted so I didn't know what to do at first, what color to paint the ones already painted (green or white or another color resembling the wood color). I finally opted for white trims, after trying tp paint the baseboard green and not liking it.
So, here are the results in different angles and views.
Views of the corridor (where it is hard to take a
picture since it is so narrow)
I painted a wavy border in this part
because after painting everything, I found it very square, with lots of straight
lines and the ceiling seemed really high and lost (9' ceilings) with
no pleasing detail and since I really like the treatment done to the
ceiling (which is the same as on the living room and dining room walls) and I
wanted to bring the eye upward for that reason. As you can see...all sorts of
contradictions: bringing the ceiling down, bringing the eye up, smoothing the
lines without having too much going on since it is small and narrow.
(Notice
that there is no fixture in the corridor, which should be solved soon now that I
have an interesting ceiling.)
Now views of the entry
There is no painted border in this part since I already had the crown
molding (which I painted white to contrast with both the wall and the ceiling)
to bring the eye up towards the ceiling. You see the entry from the living room
in the third picture, with the wall treatment being the same as the ceiling in
the entry but a bit darker. The slip cover on the chair is made with the same
fabric as the living room curtains and also some fabric from the skirt around
the table in the entry, to tie
everything together. The only thing clashing a little now is the carpet. I am
trying to find one that has some terracotta/green/yellow in it, but with no
success.
