ROBERT CARSON ARROL was the fourth child of James Stobo and Agnes Ann Clark McPeak.

Robert was born 12.10.1919 in Bridgeton Glasgow Scotland. In 1939 he married in Glasgow to May Bryce Cameron Douglas, a pattern filer.

During WW II Robert was in the Royal Army Service Corps. He served in France and was evacuated from Dieppe at the time of Dunkirk. He was shipped to the Middle East with the British Army. He then served in North Africa where he again was evacuated and escaped, ahead of the advancing German Panzers from Tobruk.

His brother Jock arranged for Roberts transfer to the NZ Calvary in late 1942. He later served with his brother, Jock in Italy and participated in the battle to take the Monastery at Mount Cassino, Italy in the winter of 1943-44. In 1944 his wife, May died at 1301 Govan Road, Govern Glasgow.

After the end of WW II in 1945, Robert emigrated to NZ. Robert was working on a farm in Edgecumbe when he met and married Nova Mavis Jensen in Edgecumbe, 12 June 1948. Nova was born 5.11.1924 in Hunterville NZ; she was the daughter of Richard Jensen (b 28/11/1891 in Ashley Clinton d. 10/2/1961 Auckland) and Ruby Pearl McLean (b 19/5/1891 Opotiki and d. 24/5/1963 Auckland). Robert applied for a 'Returned Serviceman's farm" in Mangakino, the couple worked long and hard on the 160 acre farm that they were awarded. The farm was on poor land and they and their three children lived in a barely liveable implement shed for a year. They were without power until their home was built

Through a great deal of hard work the farm was developed into a successful enterprise. The farm was sold in 1969. Bob became manager of the Returned Serviceman's Club in Mangakino (1969-71). He was employed at the Pulp and Paper mill in Tokorua. At one time they had 120 cows and addition to pigs and sheep. Robert died in 1973 of a heart attack. Robert and Nova had six children.
