He Lives
A narrated skit of John Chapter 20 KJV


Crew: spotlight on narrator
Narrator: At the place where Jesus was crucified, there was a garden and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had ever been laid. Because it was the Jewish day of preparation and since the tomb was nearby they laid Jesus there. Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance.

Crew: spotlight with blue color on, follows Mary.

Action: (Mary walks to tomb looks inside. Surprised and turns running to the disciples.)

Action: Simon and another disciple enter stage.

Narrator: So she came running to Simon Peter and another disciple.

Mary: ( upset and crying) "They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre and we know not where they have laid him".

Narrator: So Peter and the other disciple started for the tomb. The other disciple outran Peter and reached to the tomb first.

Action: Other Disciple stoops down and looks inside the tomb.

Action: Peter Arrives and crawls in looking at linens and cloths from Jesus' head.

Action: Mary Walks up after Simon Peter still weeping.

Narrator: ( while Peter is entering tomb) Then Simon Peter arrived and went into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there as well as the burial cloth from Jesus' head. When the other disciple went in, he saw and believed. They still did not understand from scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead.

Action: Peter and Other- crawl out of tomb shrug shoulders to Mary and leave for the other side of stage.

Narrator: Then the disciples went back to their homes, but Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent down to look into the tomb and saw two angels in white.

Angel 1: " Woman why weepest thou?"

Mary:( still crying) " Because they have taken away the Lord, and I know not where they have laid him".

Narrator: Then she turned around and saw Jesus standing there but didn't realize that it was Jesus.

Jesus: "Woman why weepest thou, who seekest thou?"

Narrator: She thought he was the gardener.

Mary: "Sir if thou have borne him hence tell me where thou hast laid him and I will take him away".

Jesus: (firm and loving) "Mary"

Mary: (turning and moving closer) (excited) "Rabboni"

Jesus: (holding up hands to stop her) "Touch me not for I am not yet ascended to my Father but go to my brethren and say to them, I ascend unto my Father and your father, and to my God and your God." (Jesus exits)

Action: Mary leaves to go to the disciples. They are standing talking.

Mary: "I have seen the Lord!"

Action:Disciples are excited with amazed expressions.

Crew: spotlight off

Narrator: Mary went on to tell them all Jesus had said to her.

Crew: 5 second pause -then spotlight on house set. Narrator: On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jews. Jesus came in and stood among them.

Jesus: "Peace be unto you".

Narrator: He showed them his hands and His side. The disciples were overjoyed that it was the Lord.

Action: Jesus shows them.

Jesus: "Peace be unto you, as the father hath sent me even so I send you".

Narrator: And Jesus breathed on them. (disciples feel the holy ghost rush the room)

Jesus(after blowing on them) "Receive ye the Holy Ghost. Whose so ever sins ye remit they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain they are retained."

Crew: spotlight off

Narrator: But Thomas one of the twelve was not with the disciples when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him "they had seen the Lord" but he said to them" Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were and put my hand into his side I will not believe it.

Crew: Pause then spotlight back on the house. Narrator: A week later his disciples were in the house again and Thomas was with them. though the doors were locked Jesus came and stood among them.

Jesus: "Peace unto you".

Action: Jesus looking at Thomas disciples move back and leave Jesus and Thomas alone.

Jesus: "Thomas reach hither thy finger and behold they hands and reach hither thy hand and thrust it into my side and be not faithless but believing.

Thomas: (drops to his knees raising hands) "My Lord and my God".

Jesus: "Thomas because thou hast sent me thou hast believed blessed are they that have not seen and yet have believed."

Crew: 5 second pause then spotlight off.
Narrator: Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples which were not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
