E. Johnson Eubanks was born in 1842 to James and Frances (Massey) Eubanks in Gordon Co., Georgia. In 1850 he was listed in Murray Co, living with his parents, as Johnson, age 6, male, born Georgia. By 1860 he had moved with his parents to Greene County, Arkansas. He was listed in the census as J. J. age 16, male, born Georgia. Johnson enrolled in Greene County, Arkansas, as a sergeant in Company D, Davies' Regiment, Arkansas Cavalry, C.S.A. along with his brother William and nephew James, son of Alvin. The Muster and Descriptive Roll of prisoners of war belonging to the Army of the Northern Sub-District of Arkansas and surrendered on the 11th day of May, 1865, by Brigadier General M. Jeff Thomson, C.S.A., commanding said Army, to Major General G. M. Dodge, U.S.A., commanding Department of the Missouri, showed E. J. was paroled at Wittsburg, Arkansas, on the 25th May 1865. He was 20 years of age, had gray eyes, light hair, light complexion, and was 6' tall. ["Compiled Service Records of Confederate Soldiers who served in Organizations from the State of Arkansas"] E. Johnson married Eveline (maiden name unknown) about 1865. They had two known children, John William, born 24 January 1866 and Franklin born April 1870.
