History:
(Batman III #1) - Gordon summoned Batman to tell him about a raid on Fort Marshall in which three surface-to-air missiles were stolen. Batman was aware, even though Gordon thought only he had been informed by the Secretary of Defense, and he told Batman Kobra was behind it. Two missiles had been recovered from a Kobra safehouse, but one of there terrorists was running around Gotham with the last one. As they spoke the terrorist fired, hitting a commercial airplane, and Batman lept into action. He coordinated with Alfred and Duke, learning that the plane was headed straight towards Kane Plaza. After calculating the trajectory he drove the Batmobile off Robinson Bridge, and hit the eject button. He landed on the plane, and with fuel boosters and his grappling hook he directed it towards the Gulf of Blackgate. Alfred told him the passengers would survive, but for him to pull off the landing he'd be exposed to the full brunt of the crash. Batman knew, and said he had messages for his family in case of such an emergency. He worried if his parents would be proud, and if this was indeed a good death, and Alfred assured him on both accounts. Moments before impact two superhuman figures stopped the impact. They introduced themselves as Gotham and Gotham Girl and said they were there to save the city.
