She had a revolver hidden in her stockings.History: (Plastic Man #13) - Artifice was popular in the underworld because of her beauty, and even after betraying her gang, the Seventy-Seventh Street Gang, to Grizzles Goopshaw they still couldn’t bring themselves to kill her. The gang’s leader Witherup was the only one willing to shoot her, but she got the drop on him and killed him. She fled the gang, and was picked up in a car by Plastic Man and Woozy Winks. NWhile Plas dealt with the rest of the Seventy-Seventh Street gang she took Woozy to her country hideout and forced him at gunpoint to serve her. She called up Grizzles and promised him information on her other gang, the Eighty-Eight Street Gang, if he made her part of his team. She told Woozy she’d betray him after she got everything she could from him. Plas intercepted Grizzles and disguised himself as the crook. He got a confession from her, but she fled to the hills and rolled a boulder over Plas. Plas survived, Artifice fainted and was taken to prison.

In the pre-Crisis DC Universe Artifice lived on Earth-2. Artifice, like most characters from the golden age Plastic Man stories, may or may not be a part of post-Crisis DC continuity.
Artifice was originally a Quality Comics character, which DC obtained the rights to in 1956.
