History: Atlan was the son of Atlantean King Honsu, but as he grew older his hair turned blonde, seen as a sign of a curse by the Atlanteans, and he was banished. As an Atlantean he possessed superhuman strength and durability, but breathed water and could only exist on land for short periods of time.

(Aquaman V #18-20, 22) - Atlan used a scrying window to watch Aquaman's attempt to unify the lost cities of Atlantis when he had a visit from the Others. Atlan told Garth that his time was coming soon, and he'd best ready himself. Atlan packed up, preparing to leave his haven in his mystical pyramid headquarters, knowing the Others were coming to destroy him. Leaving he found himself confronted by Kordax and Koryak in Tritonis, so he made an interdimensional jump to avoid them. He went to Basilia, where Aquaman was fighting the Hunters, who posed a threat to Earth. Aquaman hit his father, but they had to escape Basilia before they could work out their issues, and Atlan told him Tritonis was under attack by Kordax. Spought, a Hunter that had switched his allegiances to earth, operated the cities controls, causing it to rise in the air, and turning it upside down to shake the Hunters free of it. As they flew away Aquaman and Atlan talked, and Atlan apologized for ruining Atlanna's life; he said he had many regrets over his centuries of life, but Aquaman was never one of those regrets.

(Aquaman V #23-25) - Atlan contacted Arion, asking him to find aid in Aquaman's battle against the Hunters, who had designs on Earth. After Aquaman confronted Kordax in Tritonis, Atlan and he assembled the guardian of Hy-Brasil, Nuada Silverarm, the Sea Devils, Power Girl, Tsunami and Deep Blue, so they could plan a defense against the Hunters. The Hunters had come to Washington, D.C. and asked for a meeting with Aquaman. They told Aquaman they only attacked because he would not listen to them, and promised a golden age of peace on Earth, but they needed his help. The Hunter s former ally Tiamat and his pawn Kordax attacked Washington. Accord, leader of the Hunters, unlocked Aquaman's potential power, allowing him to mentally dominate Kordax. Fearing having someone to to him what he'd done to so many others Kordax took his own life. Aquaman forced Tiamat from the Earth with help from Atlan, using an interdimensional medicine bag that banished Tiamat to Hell. Accord admitted to Aquaman that the golden age would begin with a harrowing of humanity, and Aquaman broadcast his comments with Atlan's portal, ensuring that the Hunters offer would be refused. The Hunters left Earth, but promised to return when humanity destroyed itself.
