Powers: Balchun wore miniaturized scuba-gear under his mask and used a microphone to project his voice underwater. He was an engineering wizard, and had hundreds of mechanized undersea monsters at his disposal, including a giant plumed serpent.

History: (Sea Devils #5) - Balchun was an inventive genius who imagined himself as a direct descendant of Mayan rulers. He discovered a Mayan site in a sinkhole containing a culturally important idol, and set himself up as an undersea chieftain, and created mechanical undersea monsters to guard his temple. When world-famous archeologist Dr. John Brett investigated the legendary idol Balchun lured him to his doom. The Sea Devils went looking for Brett, and found Balchun. He told them they could search for their friend in the underwater temple of a hundred doors, but each door led to a sea monster, and each battle drained the Devils oxygen supply. Balchun revealed that he’d killed their friend, and had lured them into their own demise. The idol crumbled, and fell on Balchun, killing him. The Devils investigated, and after realizing Balchun wasn’t what he represented himself to be, decided that the ancient Mayans made him pay for his hubris.
