History: (DC Comics Presents #27) - Fran Cantrell was a con man ho was jailed in Nigeria after trying to steal native oil rights. Once he was paroled he started a new con with his aide K’Bani. They created a fireball in the night sky using fireworks, and K’Bani told his people it was an omen, preying on their superstitions. He claimed the silver gorilla Banaka was heralded by the fireball, and would give wealth and prosperity to all who paied him tribute with raw diamonds. Cantrell posed as Banaka, and diamond workers stole from their jobs to worship him. Congo Bill got wind of the scam, and when he couldn’t convince his workers that Banaka was a phoney he became Congorilla and confronted Banaka and K’Bani. Congorilla defeated and unmasked Banaka, and the natives realized they’d been put on.
