History: (Batman I #4) - Thatch was a gangster who clashed several times with Batmaan. He planned a spectacular heist, and drew on his acting background to reimagine himself as Blackbeard the pirate. He bought a pirate ship, and gave his men a similar makeover. They planned to rob the wealthy yachting society of Gotham City, and hold them for ransom. Thatch figured that the authorities would never connect him to Blackbeard. Blackbeard and his crew boarded the yachting society, and took them hostage. Their plan went smoothly until Batman and Robin intervened. The pirates numbers initially overwhelmed the heroes, but after being thrown in the brig they enlisted the help of the yacht enthusiasts to get free, and dispatched the pirates, and Thatch had to confess all.

Due to the Crisis on Infinite Earths, Blackbeard’s existence was erased from DC continuity.
