History: (Fury of Firestorm #1-3)-John Ravenhair was given a talisman by his great-grandfather, who was once shaman of the legendary Bison Cult. When his great-grandfather was slain by muggers he found himself possessed by the old man's spirit. Now calling himself Black Bison he sent out to avenge social injustice perpetrated against Native Americans. He caused great destruction in NY until confronted by Firestorm, who tore the mystic talisman from his neck and restored him to normal.

Black Bison was coerced into resuming his campaign of destruction by Silver Deer. It took the combined might of Firehawk and Firestorm to defeat the duo.

(Crisis on Infinite Earths #12)-Black Bison is among the assembled sorcerers who banished Anti-Monitor's shadow demons from Earth during the end of the Crisis.
