PowersBlack Star was a scheming criminal with an adequate knowledge of science. Using the black light ray Black Star could enlarge any organic matter. He used the ray to create giant animals that guarded his lab, and he used it onhimself to grant himself superhuman strength.

History(Leading Comics #2) - Clerk Mowse worked at a chemical firm that discovered the black light ray, which could enlarge any organic matter. The scientists thought it was too dangerous to exist, so they disassembled it, and hid the five radium elements itr needed to function in useless objects. They signed a pact of secrecy, witnessed by Mowse. Mowse was tired of being weak and useless, so he determined to recreate the black light ray for himself. He created the supervillain identity of the Black Star, and contacted notorious criminals Captain Bigg, Brain, Falseface, Hopper and Rattler, only communicating through pre-recorded movie reels, and provided them with a flawless plan to rob a bank. The persona Black Star portrayed was one of poiwer and menace, because he knew such underworld figures would never listen to mousy Mowse. The crooks posed as city workers, and broke a water main. The hydraulic pressure wrecked the bank's wall, and they robbed it, affording their escape by changing clothes and impersonating police officers. They collected another set of movie reels, and Black Star told them he was splitting them up for their crime wave. He assured them that if they followed his instructions to the letter they'd succeed, but if they failed he would track them down and have his vengeance. The hardened criminals all agreed that they were glad they didn't have to meet Black Star face to face, because he gave them the willies. The Seven Soldiers learned of Black Stars' plans, and split up to go after his henchmen. The Soldiers foiled all of the villains, but Black Star had always planned for them to fail. He used their crimes as a distraction to steal the radium elements. He reassembled the black light ray, and turned it on himself, making him a man of size and power. He challenged the Soldiers to confront him at his secret lab. The heroes fought their way past giant birds, rabbits and insects before confronting the villain. Stripesy knocked him cold, and he fell in front of the black light ray, being enlarged until his body crashed through the earth and he was crushed by his own weight. The Seven Soldiers were thrilled by another victory for justice.
