Powers: Thr Blood Gem gave Bloodwynd the powers of superhuman strength, flight, illusion casting, teleportation, invisibility, and the ability to sense where death had occured.
History: A group of slaves created the mystic Blood Gem to escape their captors, and passed the talisman down to their descendants. They never knew that the Blood Gem opened into another dimension where the demon Rott imprisoned the souls of everyone ever killed by it. Freddy Widmer, aka Bloodwynd, was the current owner of the Blood Gem, and Rott managed to trap him inside it. Rott mind controlled the Martian Manhunter into impersonating Bloodwynd. Manhunter eventually shook off Rott's control and rescued Bloodwynd from the gem.
(JLA #27) - Bloodwynd was called in as a JLA reservist to battle Amazo. Amazo was programmed to acquire the powers of the JLA, so when Bloodwynd and a number of other heroes temporarily joined the JLA to battle him it just made Amazo more powerful. Amazo decimated the JLA reservists, and was only defeated when Superman officially disbanded the JLA, leaving Amazo powerless.
