(R.E.B.E.L.S. #1-4) - The Omega Men continued to rack up warrants in the aftermath of the Rann-Thanagar War, and they visited Lunestus, where Tigorr had black-market contacts. Before making his rendezvous he saw L.E.G.I.O.N. droids destroy the planet's city hall, and fled back to the Omega Men ship. They flew off when Silica, the computer controlling the droids, announced that all L.E.G.I.O.N. clients were now property of that organization. A L.E.G.I.O.N. ship fired at the Omega Men, and they escaped by entering hyperspace. They knew even Vril Dox wasn't that nasty, so L.E.G.I.O.N. must be under new management. They went to the Rann Nebula, but the L.E.G.I.O.N. were still nearby. Vril Dox approached them for their aid in helping him reclaim L.E.G.I.O.N. Elu was a living cosmic storm, and he asked for his help disabling Silica, but the Omega Men refused, not forgetting their bad blood with Vril. Vril alerted L.E.G.I.O.N. to their presence and told them to run. They snuck onto Maltus, and Erg destroyed Silica. They planned on taking over L.E.G.I.O.N. for themselves to destroy the Spider Guild, but found that Silica had been possessed by a Starro, and were confronted by Astrild Storm-Daughter, another Starro slave. She proved too powerful for them, so they fled into the streets, only to be trapped inside a media center by Starro slaves. They sent out a SOS, which Vril and his newly formed R.E.B.E.L.S. received, but Vril chose not to help them, assuming they were as good as dead. The Omega Men were teleported to safety by the Psions, who showed them Starro had opened up a subspace rift in the Dominator controlled Xylon expanse, releasing a fleet of warships and the powerful slaves known as the High Vanguard.
(R.E.B.E.L.S. #5) - Their leader, a humanoid named Starro, arrived on the Dominator homeworld, and began a massacre. The Psions said the Omega Men had to assassinate him.
(R.E.B.E.L.S. #8, 9) - The Psions presented the Omega Men with Dark Stars, genetically modified Starro spore that would let them approach Maltus unopposed but no control their minds, and having the added benefit of boosting the Omega Men's natural abilities. Tigorr volunteered to have a Dark Star first, threatening to shoot the Psions if it was a trick. and although the process hurt he found he still had free will. The Omega Men flew through a wormhole to Starro's home galaxy, but had to leave Elu with the Psions because his energy form could not interact with a Dark Star. The Omega Men found one of Starro's earliest conquests, with the motherstar covering virtually the entire planet. Broot's enhanced powers included telepathy, giving him shocking insight into the Starro slaves hivemind, and alerting their attention.
(R.E.B.E.L.S. #12-14) - Broot had seen a race memory that unnerved the Starro-slaves, and directed the Omega Men to a planet that was forbidden to the slaves. The planet was completely devoid of life, it was once the home of mighty hunters who'd learned how to keep from becoming Starro-slaves and had a way to injure Starro, which resulted in Starro committing genocide on them. They dipped their weapons in a ceremonial vessel filled with poison, and the Omega Men went to find the vessel. It contained remnants of the poison, which Doc said he could reconstitute on their ship. They traveled back to the Psion spacelab, where Starro was locked battle with Vril Dox and his R.E.B.E.L.S. Armed with darts dipped in the poison that could kill Starros they struck the Conqueror, but missed his Starro, forcing Vril to get close enough to him to kill the creature with a dart. The Conqueror's Starro died, severing his connection to trillions of mind-slaves, and killing their Starros as well. Despero performed the coup de grace, and told the R.E.B.E.L.S. they were invited to Kalanor to witness Starro's execution. Vril sent out a broadcast proclaiming his victory, giving his intention to put L.E.G.I.O.N. back on track and finding some way for everyone he helped to thank him. Adam Strange thought that Vril might be a worse manipulator than Starro.
