He tracked down the nefarious Villo and asked to become his apprentice. Bubble-Master turned into a fawning dolt when he met the man he had idolized for so long. Villo told him he had to prove himself by taking down the Challengers of the Unknown. Bubble-Master robbed a jewelry store and bested the Challengers, earning himself a trial-run as Villo's assistant. Together they engaged the Challengers in a dogfight pitting the bubble craft versus the Challengers' Gallopin' Gizmo. Villo quickly tired of Bubble-Masters friendship, and threw him from the craft. Bubble-Master saved himself using a parachute bubble, and despite the abuse he still worshiped Villo. He later helped Villo break out of prison and finally earned his place as an assistant supervillain.
