Palmer was deep in reading detective books so he could learn to be a better P.I., but Bunny told him he should be working on finding a new case. He decided to go after Link The Slink, and thought it foolish to expend too much energy in chasing criminals, so he’d make Link come to him. He had Bunny’s father throw an extravagant party, and heavily advertised that Bunny’s Sultan Diamond would be on display. His plan worked, and Link arrived to steal the diamond, walking straight into Palmer’s trap. Link fell down a trap-door into a cage, and Palmer victoriously displayed him to the party-goers. Oxie hadn’t properly frisked Link, and he produced a tommy gun, shooting his way out. He would have escaped if he didn’t slip on a banana peel Oxie carelessly left on the floor. Palmer had to turn down the reward money since Link’s capture came down to dumb luck, and he donated the reward to the U.S.O.
