(Hell blazer #54 (fb)) - Calibraxis became the butcher of Hell, and committed atrocities for ten centuries.
(Hell blazer #54 (fb)) - <1888> Prince Eddy had an illegitimate son by a prostitute, and her friends sought to blackmail the royal family. The queen ordered them killed, and contacted top freemason Sir William Gull. He had little appetite for murder, so his Masonic friends performed a summoning, and he was possessed by Calibraxis. The possessed Gull brutally murdered and dissected the prostitutes. The unidentified murderer was dubbed Jack the Ripper. His work complete, and his mind broken by Calibraxis, Gull was put in a mental ward. When he died Calibraxis took his soul to Hell as a souvenir of the good old days when he roamed Earth.
(Hell blazer #52, 55 (fb, BTS)) - The prince of Wales and his hedonistic friends summoned Calibraxis at the Caligula Club, a secret meeting place where the UK’s most powerful and wealthiest could indulge in every sordid desire they had. The prince had been egged on by royal fixer Sir Peter Marston, who dreamed of a demon running England and advised by him. He wanted a return to England’s militaristic glory with no liberal opposition, but soon realized that Calibraxis could never be controlled. Calibraxis slaughtered the prince’s friends and took possession of him. The possessed prince tried to fight back mentally, but Calibraxis butchered his memory. He relished the idea of roaming free on Earth, and punishing the innocent instead of the damned. He picked up a male nightwalker, and after torturing him, sliced him to ribbons. Sir Marston knew he’d have to get the magician John Constantine’s help to solve this delicate matter. The prince resisted Calibraxis, so the demon horrified him with memories of his favorite torture sessions until his mind was nearly broken. Calibraxis then had the prince pick up another man and murder him more brutally than the last victim.
(Hell blazer #53-55) - The prince committed more atrocities, eating his victims, and Marston covered up the murders while John Constantine worked on a way to resolve the case. The prince fought back against Calibraxis again, so Calibraxis forced him to start mutilating himself. John called a séance with psychic Nigel Archer, the prince’s friends, and the prince’s victims, who’d been temporarily reunited with their souls. This was enough to get Calibraxis’ attention, and he burst in on the séance, saying John had insulted him by returning his victims to flesh. John, knowing the many rules demons had to follow, told him he owed the innocent souls for taking their lives, and demanded his name. The demon was none too happy, but had no choice but to give its name, Calibraxis, giving John some measure of power over him. It also revealed that it had been in London before, in possession of Jack the Ripper, before leaving and returning to the mind of the prince. John found his copy of the Grimorium Verum, a directory of Hell, and planned to use it to cast out Calibraxis. Calibraxis was angered at John’s meddling. He knew John’s death would mean war in Hell, because his soul was promised to all three of Hell’s kings, but the demon only cared about his own desires. He returned to the Caligula Club, and started eating people until John intervened. Scot’s guard Dave Hezlet bound the prince, and John and Nigel prepared for the exorcism. Marston had Hezlet kill the witnesses at the Caligula Club, and John and Nigel knew they were next. John confronted Marston about a copy of the Grimorium he found in Marston‘s office, and he admitted planning to put a demon in charge of England. John knew he’d just try again, so after the exorcism he handcuffed Marston to a pipe, and sent Calibraxis inside of him. Desperate for one last meal, Calibraxis forced Marston to eat himself, and then dragged his soul to Hell. John and Nigel realized the prince would go unpunished, but they were keen enough knowing they’d banished a demon, and stopped Marston’s mad plan. In Hell Calibraxis hung Marston next to Sir Gull, and relished the next time he would find his way into the mortal world for new experiences and delights.
Comments: Created by Garth Ennis & William Simpson.
The Doom Patrol villain Red Jack also claimed to be Jack The Ripper. He also bragged about being God, so maybe he was a bit delusional.
