Powers: Catalyst was an Olympic-level athlete and a superb combatant. Catalyst was a human drug arsenal, capable of inducing the effects of any drug he wished into the body of anyone he touched. Examples include truth serum (Sodium Pentothol) and tranquilizers (Valium).

History: (Blue Beetle vol. 2 #14, 15)-Catalyst gained his powers through illicit experimentation in the genetic and chemical labs of the Cornelius/Krieg corporation, a multinational pharmaceutical corporation. Catalyst began his career as a covert agent of the corporation, kidnapping Dr. Jeremiah Duncan, who had access to an experimental drug known only as XD-3. Catalyst was later captured by Blue Beetle II.

Catalyst had a brief stint with the corporate super-team known as the Captains of Industry.

(JSA #11, 12) - After the break-up of the Captains of Industry Catalyst began working for the terrorist Kobra. When the JSA attacked Kobra’s Blackhawk Island headquarters Catalyst immobilized JSA chairman Sand. Kobra’s talk of global armageddon began to make Catalyst very nervous, and when Kobra initiated a self-destruct sequence in the Blackhawk hq Catalyst gladly healed the damage he did to Sand in exchange for the JSA helping him off the island in a Blackhawk Express plane.
