(Action Comics I #11) - Chuck overpowered his guard and took his gun. When Baldy arrived chuck put the gun to him, and made him close up the trap door, while Baldy threatened that once the 4-G boss cougar learned what he'd done his life would be worth nothing.. Two new members of the 4-G gang arrived to undertake a new raid, and chuck, still pressing a gun to Baldy, forced him to say Chuck was Slug's replacement for the job. They rode out to a raid, and when Chuck learned his Blacky was being held in a nearby cave he let them go ahead while he rescued his steed. He followed the men at a distance, and when they stopped on a mountainside he rode ahead, getting a vantage of ten feet above them.

(Action Comics I #16) - Chuck lit out for unfamiliar territory, and was ambushed, knocked out and brought to the sheriff by two desperados who told the sheriff Chuck's killed Old Mason, the proprietor of the Box-M Ranch. The sheriff wanted to investigate, and sent the men to fetch his deputy, giving Chuck the opportunity to slug the sheriff and escape. Chuck went to the Box-M and found Mason alive, the criminal's bullet only grazed his skull. He explained that the owner of the Bar-U Ranch hired them when he wouldn't sell his ranch. The sheriff and the desperados arrived at Mason's ranch, and he pointed the finger at the guilty parties, saying Chuck was innocent. Chuck was free of suspicion, and the sheriff thanked him for his help.

In the pre-Crisis on Infinite Earths DCU Chuck Dawson lived on Earth-2.
