CITADEL (pre-Flashpoint)

Membership: Blackfire, Branx, Citadelians, Complex-Complex, First Citadelian, Gordanians, Harry Hokum, Spider Guild

Base of Operations: Citadel Homeworld, Vegan Star-System

First Appearance: Green Lantern II #137 (February, 1981)

History: The Citadel was founded thousands of cycles ago by the firstborn son of the goddess X'Hal. Known as the First Citadelian (his true name was lost to history), he was a charismatic leader that rejected love and rejoiced in warfare. Raised on Okaara, he turned the populace into warmongers, which led to nuclear war and his banishment. He returned to the Psion lab where he was born, and with the help of Psion scientists formed a Fortress Ring out of broken fragments of a moon that would become his headquarters. The Citadelian created the Citadel Homeworld on the planet below, recruiting  Gordanians and Branx warriors to serve as his army and bring him slaves. The fascist Citadel empire was born, and the Citadel waged unending war against the cosmos. The Citadelian cloned himself to make the Citadel race, although they were imperfect and mentally challenged replicas. Towards the end of his life the Citadelian programmed his consciousness into the computer network Complex-Complex that governed the Citadel.

(R.E.B.E.L.S. #6) - Starro The Conquerer usurped L.E.G.I.O.N. and conquered the Dominator homeworld. The Citadelians and other extraterrestrial civilizations prepared for war with Starro.

(R.E.B.E.L.S. #23) - Vril Dox continued his anti GLC rhetoric, and several planets, including the Citadelian homeworld, wanted the GLC out of their sector. Vril had Lyrl design a singularity module, and secretly delivered it to the Citadelian Liberation Front, who threatened to destroy Vega's sun with a black hole unless the GLC left. GLs Altin Admos and Gorius Karkum foiled them, defusing the bomb, and realized the brain-damaged clones could not have masterminded the plot, even though they had no evidence against Dox.
