History: Dian's father was a D.A. and she was a bit of a flapper until she met the mysteryman Sandman. She was intrigued with fighting crime, and helped him on many cases.

(Sandman Mystery Theatre #27, 28) - Dian came to check on Wesley, and saw Humphries bandaging up his bruised ribs. She was horrified that he was up to his old nonsense. Wesley said he couldn't expect to change overnight, and he had a responsibility to end injustice even though he cared about her too. He said his dreams that guided him were not clear without Dian, but she left in a huff. Dian learned form her father Larry that Lieutenant Burke was pursuing the Butcher in the sewers under French restaurant Blanco Negro, and called Wesley to tip him off. She admitted that she didn't know why she felt the way she did, but she couldn't stop thinking about him. Dian told her father she got sick of the city sometimes, and dreamed of leaving everything behind to go to Paris. He wasn't paying attention because his programs were on, so she left the house, telling him she was going to run away with gypsies. When the Butcher affair ended Sandman fled from the sewers, and Dian was there to pick him up in a car. He was overjoyed to reconnect with her.

(Sandman Mystery Theatre #29, 30) - Dian and her father exchanged gifts on Christmas Eve, and although they still mourned her mother she told him she knew he was interested in his secretary, and approved of him pursuing love. Wesley and Dian had Christmas Eve dinner, and spent a night of passion together. On Christmas day he gave Dian a locket that belonged to his mother, and she gave him a watch dedicated to helping Sandman sleep. He'd had little need to go out as Sandman since his dreams were unfocused and not pulling him in as they had without her. He'd been contacted to invest in Bannermain Chemicals, and took Dian along. She loved the fact that she respected him as an equal. He was wooed by Alexander Bannermain, but got along better with his chemist Rex Tyler. Bannermain insisted they attend his New Year's costume ball, and Wes and Dian spent another night together, but when she woke up the bed was empty except for a Sandman doll. Wes couldn't sleep because of a nightmare, and after some prodding from Dian he opened up. He dreamed of a giant clockface covering the city, and criminals running across it smashing valuables. He also saw Rex Tyler, and wanted to speak to him, so he arranged a dinner at McSorley's. After some good conversation they parted ways, but when Wes tried to trail him Rex took one of the Miraclo pills of his own invention that gave him superpowers and lost him. Wes tried to figure out how to do  surveillance on him, and Dian called up the electric company as Rex's "wife" saying their power was out and asking them to read back her address. Wes was pleased with her ingenuity, and she convinced him to go to Bannermain's ball, saying she'd already picked out costumes for them.

(Sandman Mystery Theatre #31, 32) - Dian met her friend Catherine, who'd recovered from some traumatic experiences, and realized she'd lost contact with too many of her friends, and was neglecting her writing, charity work, and pursuit of a law degree. She knew she was expending a lot of energy on Wes, but thought the adventure was worth it. Wes learned that the Breezy Boys were planning on robbing the ball, and Dian identified their likeliest target as Dorothy Bannermain's family jewels. Dian was going as a Spanish princess for the ball, but Wes was too late for his fitting, so he chose an acrobat uniform, gaudy purple and yellow with a cowl to mask his face. Dian laughed at Wes' costume, but was pleased that he asked her to be on lookout for the Breezy Boys, because he needed her help in crimefighting. Sandman and his new ally Rex Tyler, now in the costumed identity of Hourman, saved Dot, and Sandman exited the party with Dian, who was thrilled to be part of his escapades.

(Sandman Mystery Theatre #33-36) - Wes and Dian took in a showing of Cagney's Angels with Dirty Faces, and Dian met her old friend Carol Swanson, who invited her to Jack Benoir's gymnasium. They went the next day, and Dian admitted she wanted to slim down to fit her mother's wedding dress, but Carol said she looked fine the way she was. Dian visited her father who was working late because wealthy banker Emmett Beedle had been strangled to death. Wes visited Dian at home, and she was irritated that he went out on patrol without telling her. Larry came home, saying there was another strangulation murder, and Dian begrudgingly gave Wes her blessing to go out again as Sandman. After a breakfast date he skipped out on her again during her next visit, so she entered his lab, and fell asleep waiting for him. Dian was getting concerned with Wes' increased activities as Sandman. She continued to attend Benoir's classes with Carol, and Carol convinced her to go on Benoir's weekend camp session. Dian realized she was submerging herself too much in the Sandman's work. On her way to camp she read a letter from her old friend Annabel Forbes-Whitten, who was happily married, and felt envious. At the camp Carol tried to sleep with her, but she didn't feel right about cheating on Wes despite her reservations about him. She left camp early, and learned that Benoir was the Python strangler. After a long talk with her father she decided to get away from him and Wes for a time, leaving for England to find herself.

(Spectre III #54, 55) - Spectre's NYPD partner Nate Kane made an appointment to see Wesley and Dian to discuss the cold case of Julia Edmonds' death. Wesley said her mother Regina's murder was before his time, but revealed that after Julia went missing she reappeared after WWII to claim the family estate, and might still be alive. Kane said Jim Corrigan was a suspect in Regina's death, but Wesley said there was no way he was a cold-blooded killer.

(Spectre III #62) - Corrigan decided to give up the mantle of the Spectre, at last seeking peace in death. Craemer arranged for his bones to be buried in a small grave, and performed a funeral service, with all of the friends Corrigan met as the Spectre attending, including Dian and Wesley. The Spectre-Force vanished and Jim ascended to Heaven.
